I am in the throws of selling and buying a house, I just wondered how long stuff normally takes. There is absolutely no chain we are buying an empty property and we are selling to a FTB. We accepted an offer on the 30th April and we got a letter saying this from the EA on the 6th of May siting 6th May as the offer acceptance day, that aside, they have still not done a Survey on our house and our solicitor has not sent of draft contracts yet. Am i being impatient, ( I do have form for impatience!!)

I would have expected a survey to have been organised by now. Get onto your lawyer and ask him what is happening

We sold our house beg of March, their survey is supposed to be today. It has been frustratingly slow! Apparently they are with Santander who leave the surveys to the very end.
Hoping once this is done, it'll all be very quick!

Last year we put an offer on a house (with no chain) in March, we moved in August.

That's too slow. Chase, chase, chase. Via your solicitors (assuming you have a fixed price arrangement with them, rather than them charging you for every letter/email/phone call) and also the estate agent.

To speed up your buyer, tell them that as things don't seem to be progressing, you're considering putting the house back on the market. That worked wonders for my sale, which has now completed.

If your solicitor doesn't respond to your first chase, give them a deadline, saying if they don't meet it, you assume that means they don't want to act for you any more and you're going to instruct another firm.

Have you done a survey on the house you're buying?

Oh hang on a minute - for some reason, I read your OP as March, not May. No harm in asking the estate agent what's happening on the buyer's side, but no reason to panic and it's a bit early for beating people with a big stick. Patience!

yes our survey is done and we have started the searches, but their solicitor and ours for that matter seem a bit slow and the EA seem to be not bothered since we accepted the offer, I am having to chase them all the time, thats why I thought it was me being impatient, I have never come across such a bunch of overpaid idle people as Conveyencing Solicitors!! (I am generalising here, sorry if you are one, and reading this! )

We were FTB buying an empty house. We offered end November/early December, got the keys 1 March.

I think we did the survey before Christmas, then our solicitor was just slow and rubbish... she just didn't do things, things sat on her desk, no idea why. She went on holiday and the person covering her work had us done in about a week.

So chase the solicitors.

How long is a piece of string?.. I put an offer in on a house with no chain last February.

I moved in December

It was the most stressful 10 months of my life (but the vendor was an absolute arsehole)

I really hope your move is a lot quicker and stress free
