I was reading while dc had MTV on, her new song was playing.

Her lyrics Yes I be your woman
Yes I be your baby
Yes I be whatever that you tell me when you ready
Yes I be your girl, forever your lady
You ain't never gotta worry, I'm down for you baby

Best believe that when you need that
Ill provide that you will always have it
I be on deck keep it in check
When you need that I'mma let you have it

Beating my drum like dum di di dey
I love the dirty rhythm you play

Yes I do the cooking
Yes I do the cleaning
Yes I keep the nana real sweet for your eating
Yes you be the (boss) yes I be respecting
Whatever that you tell me cause its game you be spitting

Best believe that when you need that
Ill provide that you will always have it.

I be on deck keep it in check
When you need that I'mma let you have it

So baby when you need that give me a word I be good I be bad for my baby

Make sure that hes getting his share
Make sure that his baby take care
Make sure mama crawls on her knees keep him pleased rub him down be a lady and a freak.

According to Minaj, us girls are simply beings that must cook, clean and give sex.

I have a teen daughter and I am absolutely sick of pop stars bringing us back 50 years. Nicky MInaj is by far the worst offender.

best not listen to it then

SneakySarah · 26/05/2015 11:06

I don't but my teenagers do, no doubt a huge amount of teens do.

yes but as a parent you counteract that crap - just like you did Princeses, Bratz Dolls, and all the other shit they encounter

Koalafications · 26/05/2015 11:09

Nicki Minaj is awful I can't listen to her music. Her music videos are like soft porn.

I agree that it's worrying that boys and girls are growing up listening to and seeing this kind of thing.

cogitosum · 26/05/2015 11:10

I can't work out with this one if it's meant to be ironic.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 26/05/2015 11:11

I think you're giving far too much importance to one very bad song. Seriously, if you think that can drag us all back 50 years, you don't think much of women in general.

ByTheSea · 26/05/2015 11:12

According to my DDs this is her being sarcastic and taking the piss and she is a feminist.

RightSideOfWrong · 26/05/2015 11:14

Yeah "the kids" interpret this as her being ironic. It's bad, I'll give her that.

SneakySarah · 26/05/2015 11:15

Well it's not just Minaj Winter, it will drag us back, if young girls think that they are only good for cooking and cleaning and sex and are told that constantly.

Surely an artist should be allowed to express the feelings they have for their partner, no matter how objectionable to others, and no matter what their gender.

ghostyslovesheep · 26/05/2015 11:17

but you are saying that raising our girl from day one to not think like that will be totally counteracted by a crap pop song - as a feminist mum of 3 girls I totally disagree

we discuss this stuff and pick it apart and talk about how we feel about messages like this - it doesn't exist in a vacuum

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 26/05/2015 11:19

I've more respect for my daughters than thinking pop songs will affect their life choices. Did pop songs influence yours?
A couple of crappy songs is not a constant stream of pressure, and I don't think our young woman are as stupid as you make out.
