AIBU?

AIBU to call our baby.....?

Having trouble picking a name for upcoming baby. I really like Obi Wren (instead of Wan), but I don't think it's fair to lumber the child with a silly Star Wars name, even though I think it's dead cute. Obviously, dh loves it and 100% wants to go with it.
AIBU to call a baby Obi?

What about Obi Two ? I think it has a lovely sound to it, Obi Wan is soooooo overused in the preschools round here, I know of at least 10000.

Jaysus, yabu. What has the kid done to you to deserve such a lifelong punishment?

Remember a baby has to grow up with a name you give him/her and suffer the teasing of other kids.
I don't think some parents think about their baby as a person in it's own right when they choose names. Something you like now, being a Star Wars fan is not necessarily what you will like in 10 years.
You can always use Obi as a nickname in the family.

No, it's not OK! Obi on its own you could get away with, but Obi Wren is not cool!

And not only a name he might hate but a girl's name too.

Might as well call him Sue!

Do it. Though it might limit the impact of a 'full name' moment. "Obi wren" you cannot hit your brother with that light sabre"

Strangely enough I like it.

I actaully think it's really cute. I would definitely put another name first though just so child has a more "normal" name to use should the wish and keep Obi Wren as Middle names using them As everday names.

I think it's cute but would have it as Obi-Wren if it was me. Grin

I like Obi, not Obi Wren though

What about Oliver Benjamin/Olivia Becky, with the NN Obi?

I dunno op, it's a slippery slope to a theme. You could do an entire Jedi council.

But what do I know? I named one of my son's after the guy who plays obi wan? (Coincidentally, not on purpose)

I know I just said 'cute' but I was going on the assumption that it's a girl.. if it's a boy then.. hmm.. not so cute.

yabu. Its awful. The kid will hate it.
Its something you might call a pet not a human being who has to live there whole life with that name.

Slightly irrelevant but there was a male character on pretty little liars called Wren, so I think you can get away with it as a unisex name :)

Can't say the name as its identifiable but my friend named her daughter after a star wars character but it was middle name + surname - it's cool grin

I'm guessing Firstname Skye Walker

Oh fuck. Dp has just pointed out that my favourite name for DS2 was very close to the other obi wan actor.

Thank God we picked something else. I love star wars but that would've been too much.

Awful. YADBU. Why would you saddle a child with that name? Get a pet and use it for that instead.

I know a grown up Obi. He is one of the coolest people I have ever met. I assume he probably had a lot of people making fun of his name when he was at school though.

I know loads of Obi's; maybe it's a North London thing.

I wanted to call DD Leia but I was vetoed by DH on the day she was born.

What about Owen Bailey or Olive Beatrice?
Then they can be O.B., but have a "High Court Judge" name as well?
