AIBU to call our baby.....?

Having trouble picking a name for upcoming baby. I really like Obi Wren (instead of Wan), but I don't think it's fair to lumber the child with a silly Star Wars name, even though I think it's dead cute. Obviously, dh loves it and 100% wants to go with it.
AIBU to call a baby Obi?

Too unusual Imo.

AwfulBeryl · 26/05/2015 08:44

What about Obi Two ? I think it has a lovely sound to it, Obi Wan is soooooo overused in the preschools round here, I know of at least 10000.

Gullygirl · 26/05/2015 08:45

Seek advice you must, for a really outwordly name it is.Confused

WinterOfOurDiscountTents15 · 26/05/2015 09:08

Jaysus, yabu. What has the kid done to you to deserve such a lifelong punishment?

KindergartenKop · 26/05/2015 09:09

How about Luke?

Gottagetmoving · 26/05/2015 09:11

Remember a baby has to grow up with a name you give him/her and suffer the teasing of other kids.
I don't think some parents think about their baby as a person in it's own right when they choose names. Something you like now, being a Star Wars fan is not necessarily what you will like in 10 years.
You can always use Obi as a nickname in the family.

wigglylines · 26/05/2015 09:21

No, it's not OK! Obi on its own you could get away with, but Obi Wren is not cool!

And not only a name he might hate but a girl's name too.

Might as well call him Sue!

flora717 · 26/05/2015 09:32

Do it. Though it might limit the impact of a 'full name' moment. "Obi wren" you cannot hit your brother with that light sabre"

MidnightDinosaur · 26/05/2015 09:33

Strangely enough I like it.

I actaully think it's really cute. I would definitely put another name first though just so child has a more "normal" name to use should the wish and keep Obi Wren as Middle names using them As everday names.

ScorpioMermaid · 26/05/2015 09:36

I think it's cute but would have it as Obi-Wren if it was me. Grin

Sandbrook · 26/05/2015 09:37

I like Obi, not Obi Wren though

SaucyJack · 26/05/2015 09:37

What about Oliver Benjamin/Olivia Becky, with the NN Obi?

Enormouse · 26/05/2015 09:39

I dunno op, it's a slippery slope to a theme. You could do an entire Jedi council.

But what do I know? I named one of my son's after the guy who plays obi wan? (Coincidentally, not on purpose)

ScorpioMermaid · 26/05/2015 09:39

I know I just said 'cute' but I was going on the assumption that it's a girl.. if it's a boy then.. hmm.. not so cute.

CumberCookie · 26/05/2015 09:40

yabu. Its awful. The kid will hate it.
Its something you might call a pet not a human being who has to live there whole life with that name.

girlgamergoesbad · 26/05/2015 09:41

Slightly irrelevant but there was a male character on pretty little liars called Wren, so I think you can get away with it as a unisex name :)

Can't say the name as its identifiable but my friend named her daughter after a star wars character but it was middle name + surname - it's cool grin

I'm guessing Firstname Skye Walker

Enormouse · 26/05/2015 09:49

Oh fuck. Dp has just pointed out that my favourite name for DS2 was very close to the other obi wan actor.

Thank God we picked something else. I love star wars but that would've been too much.

BlinkAndMiss · 26/05/2015 09:53

Awful. YADBU. Why would you saddle a child with that name? Get a pet and use it for that instead.

UnfortunateUsername · 26/05/2015 10:00

I know a grown up Obi. He is one of the coolest people I have ever met. I assume he probably had a lot of people making fun of his name when he was at school though.

SocialMediaAddict · 26/05/2015 10:04

I know loads of Obi's; maybe it's a North London thing.

I wanted to call DD Leia but I was vetoed by DH on the day she was born.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2015 10:06

Don't be so bloody cruel. Do you hate your child already?

addictedtosugar · 26/05/2015 10:07

What about Owen Bailey or Olive Beatrice?
Then they can be O.B., but have a "High Court Judge" name as well?

Mrsjayy · 26/05/2015 10:10

Dont be ridiculous obi wren you are taking the piss right Hmm

Mrsjayy · 26/05/2015 10:13

Actually go ahead lumber your dd with it she will hate you and change her name to sarah as soon as she can
