AIBU to think that if I'm too young (16) to buy violent video games, I'm also too young to sign up for the army?

Also AIBU to think if the government think I'm too young to play violent video games, the MOD shouldn't have been teaching me weapon skills in cadets since I was 12 and let me run around the countryside playing army.

I think that children who sign up at 16 should be allowed to leave at 18 before combat. I can see the benefits for some of that sort of discipline and training, and now they would need to be in some sort of mainly Government funded education until 18. I do not think that a 16yr old has the maturity to sign away the next 6 years even if their parents agree. I also don't let my dc play games underage, but it is easy at the moment having girls who aren't too interested. Ds will prove more of a challenge I think.

Smoking used to be 16 but got changed to 18. Marriage is 18 unless your parents agree, in England that is, hence couples going to Gretna Green in Scotland to get around it. My Nan said marriage used to be 21, and had to get parental permission www.findlaw.co.uk/law/criminal/your_rights/500373.html

mugglingalong you can leave at any time before 18 as long as your parents agree Hmm and they still have to do English and maths as well as gaining qualifications for the corp they want to be in.

It is worth bearing in mind that joining the Army at 16 is not the same as joining at 18. It is handled differently and separately.
