to think that 'goolies' is not a rude word

DH seemed genuinely shocked that I said the word 'goolies' in front of our friends and their children today. It's no worse than 'bum' in my view. I didn't think it was at all bad other than maybe saying it in front of great auntie Alice. Aibu?

It wouldn't have bothered me. I haven't heard goolies n years Smile

Monica101 · 23/05/2015 21:50

Grin I think it's a funny word.

Id say it's a bit ruder than bum. But only on par with 'bloody hell' or such.

WorraLiberty · 23/05/2015 21:52

I haven't heard that word for so long Grin

I suppose it's one of those words that some people find rude and others don't.

fadingfast · 23/05/2015 21:52

REALLY as bad as 'bloody hell'? Like, a proper swear word?! Confused

usualsuspect333 · 23/05/2015 21:53

It's not a rude word really. Is you DH very prim?

I haven't heard goolies for years though. Might start using it, it's a great word Grin

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 23/05/2015 21:54

Not as rude as bloody hell! It's a 'funny' word, hardly designed to be shocking!

usualsuspect333 · 23/05/2015 21:54

It's not a swear word. At least you didn't say bollocks.

Plonkysaurus · 23/05/2015 21:56

It's definitely not as rude as saying bollocks. It's more tasteful than nadgers, and more entertaining than just nuts.

I like it.

RusticBlush · 23/05/2015 21:56

Definitely better than cock!!!

fadingfast · 23/05/2015 21:57

It is an excellent word, and perfect to use (so I thought) in the context of the conversation, which was about the reason for wearing a box in games of cricket. Children were 7+.
Dh not overly prim but does have some strange ideas I blame it on public school

Hmm. Well....not everyone would use that word in front of children. I would...in front of my own though...not in front of someone else's.

When I was a kid, I was invited to my friend's house for tea.

I was excited because my friend's Dad was a chef and he was cooking that night.

When I got home I proudly announced that I'd eaten every bit of Hannah's Dad's goolies!

My Mum was Shock Shock

After further questioning, she was relieved to find I meant goulash Blush

HarpyBeard · 23/05/2015 22:00

I suppose it depends on whether your husband actually finds the fact of testicles inherently 'rude' in themselves, or whether he thinks you should have said 'testicles', not 'goolies'. Which is more than a bit odd to my mind. 'Goolies' is kind of a five-year-old term. Like saying 'foo foo' for vagina.

fadingfast · 23/05/2015 22:02

Yes I would definitely put it on the less rude end of the scale to bollocks.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 23/05/2015 22:12

Ds (8) had sore goolies today so I said I'd have a look on the internet to see if it meant anything. He asked if I was allowed to type goolies on the internet so I told him I'd type the proper word. He has heard of testicles before but was genuinely surprised that the actual term was not goolies, peanuts or balls!

parsnipbob · 23/05/2015 22:16

I said 'balls' in front of someone's kids once and was flamed for it. I was genuinely Confused?! I have a pretty lax attitude to swearing but that was me trying to tone it down!!!

RubieWoo · 23/05/2015 22:16

giblets is worse.

usualsuspect333 · 23/05/2015 22:19

I'd say 'balls' 'nuts' and 'goolies' in front of other peoples kids.

LagerthaEarlIngstad · 23/05/2015 22:23

I just had a vision of someone just randomly chanting 'balls, nuts and goolies' in front of any children they encounter Grin

molyholy · 23/05/2015 22:29

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 23/05/2015 22:34

As in ghosties & ghoulies.

PixiePuffs · 23/05/2015 22:34

I don't think that's unreasonable but then in our house we think it's funny to make up the daftest names for a male's test tickles..
