Noisy music coming from local pub

Not so much AIBU, more ATBU (are they being unreasonable).
I live next to a country pub, along with a few other houses, on the edge of a village.
Tonight the pub put up a marquee in their garden and have had a night of live bands playing in the marquee. Normally if the pub has live music they hold indoors, but not tonight.
So it's very loud and noisy and doesn't show any signs of letting up.
I'm thinking 11.15 pm is pretty late to have loud outdoor bands playing where it is in close proximity to other houses, or am I wrong?
I'm not fussed for myself but feel for my elderly neighbours next door. I don't plan on complaining because they've never done this before, but wondered if people thought the pub WBU or whether it's ok at this time of night?

If it is only a rare occurrence I think YABU. If the pub does not make money and attract customers it may close like many village pubs .

Did they have banners outside the pub? Lots of pubs have events on summer bank holiday weekends and it's not that big an issue. If you want notification pop into the pub and ask them to put info on a fb page so you can antcipate it.

I'm sure they have to pipe down by 12am though, selks. My landlady gets an extension till 12 for these things, but that's all. And the landlady's license says she can't play music outside - so it's worth checking on that. We have a strong Residents Assoc where we are and they do keep an eye on things.

One Bank Hol Monday a couple of years ago, they had an outdoor BBQ with deafening music - and the police came and told them they had to move the music indoors. I imagine one of the residents called them.

I think there can be conditions attached to their entertainment license. If they are putting on live music after 11pm they'll need to have one.

They might get huge tellys in and broadcast Eurovisions at 90 million decibels

Selks · 23/05/2015 00:29

It's 12.30 and they've just stopped.

Like I said, I won't be complaining if this is a one off.
But I do think it is inconsiderate - and unnecessary, they have a perfectly good indoors function room. No need to outdoors music so late.

Thanks for all your opinions. Seems fairly split down the middle. I just wanted to canvas opinion in order to check out my own thoughts. Night all.

I'd probably go round and watch that, 70! Would be a laugh.

I think YABU if it's not very often. A stuffy indoors room is no fun in spring. Was the pub established after you bought the house or well before?

maddening · 23/05/2015 03:08

I'm sure when their customers are swigging white wine spritzers on a sunny day they would rather you didn't amplify loud music outside - perhaps some black sabbath ? Works both ways a pubs should be more considerate of their neighbours.

goodasitgets · 23/05/2015 03:29

I don't think YABU. I'm generally up at 5.45am for work so would be a little tetchy!

MsRaspberryJam · 23/05/2015 03:35

Disagree with other posters. You shouldn't have to put up with this. They are unlikely to have a license to play music outside. Hearing music is one thing, but not at such an intrusive volume at that time of night.

CycleChic · 24/05/2015 07:35

Have a drink and a word with the manager to find out if it is a one off, though!

RoganJosh · 24/05/2015 07:43

I think 12.30 is too late to finish. I'd expect it to stop at 11.

LazyLouLou · 24/05/2015 09:10

Bank Holiday weekend, lovely weather and a pub = noise.

In order to get punters in they must have advertised it, if it is a private party they would have to have let everyone know they were closed to the public.

And they would have had to apply for an extension to their normal license. So no complaint to the council will help.

They ANBU, they are being a pub.

Pipbin · 24/05/2015 09:22

I'm in two minds. Yes the pub was there when you bought the house, but 12.30 is too late to finish in my opinion. 12pm fair enough.
It depends on their license I think.

A year or so ago there was an organised legal 'rave' (no idea if that is what they are still called) in the town centre here in an abandoned building. I live a mile away but the music was still loud enough to keep my whole street awake until 5am on Sunday.
At 4am I had called the police who said that they had received a lot of calls about it but as it was a licenced event they could do nothing. (I didn't know it was licensed when I called them)
