Joules - AIBU to feel fleased?

I popped into Joules at Bicester outlet village. Girls' polo shirts were labelled RRP £24.95, outlet price £12.95. Seemed like a bargain so I bought 3 in various sizes and colours.

A short while later I was on the Joules website and saw exactly the SAME polo shirts for sale at £12.95. This wasn't a sale or special price, it was the regular price.

I emailed Joules with photos to let them know, thinking it was a genuine mistake but their response was:

"It would seem that as this product is a special item it is £12.95 and would be costed at £24.95 if it was added to our Joule range in the future.
It can cause a little confusion however it is by no means meant to deceive our customers."

I responded that the items ARE currently for sale on the Joules website at £12.95 and this is the regular price (to which you could apply discount codes etc). I also asked to return the polo shirts as I felt I had been mislead. I received a response thanking me for my "thoughts". I have heard nothing further.

Am I unreasonable to think that Joules is deliberately conning customers - I only bought them as I thought they were half price.

I also wanted to warn other unsuspecting shoppers.

It's wrong to refer to the RRP if RRP isn't generally used.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has issued the Pricing Practices Guide (www.bis.gov.uk). In it, it states that it is acceptable for marketers to quote Recommended Retail Prices (RRPs) if they are genuine and not significantly different from the price at which the product might be sold. The CAP Code mirrors that requirement and Rule 3.40 states â??Comparisons with recommended retail prices (RRPs) are likely to mislead if the RRP differs significantly from the price at which the product or service is generally soldâ??.

Quote this to their head office. The ASA won't be interested if there isn't an advert. Good luck!

My local joules always has half price sale on at moment. I have some joules tops but they at least 6 years old (in fact might be alot older). Is it me or is the new stuff more boring now. I like white stuff or fatface now (not that ive got anything but its nice to look at). Report to trading standards op. Do find bicester village has similar deals in all the shops. Cant believe anyone buys the next half price clothes...

Walter I guess I'm a sucker for a bargain or just a sucker in this case. I only buy Joules stuff in sales or with codes as its so expensive. I couldnt justify paying full price for anything from Joules as there's normally a 20% off code around.

I only bought those tops as I believed I was getting a deal that was too good to miss (that's also why I bought 3 - 1 in next size up). In fact I paid more than I would have done buying them from the Joules website with a code.

I would complain to trading standards and asa - what they are doing is misleading and dliberate.

They are 12.95, you paid 12.95, what's the problem?

CheshireSplat · 22/05/2015 20:25

No probs. Smile happy Friday.

IslandintheStreamIng · 22/05/2015 20:27

YANBU. I'd be fuming.

That would be Joules: Dreamed up in the fields of England, Made in China (or words to that effect)

DS1 has some joules jammies which have stayed lovely for over a year, but I'm generally underwhelmed by their stuff for the price.

And outlet shops are notoriously dodgy. The Crocs ones always make me cringe, quoting the RRP as a good 1/3 more than I've ever seen items in the shops, then being so generous as to offer around 25% off the quoted price. Tefal ones are the same - with the discounts, thing end up selling for the same as Argos. Most of the shoes in a Clarks outlet have never been on sale on the high street and the quality is notably cheaper eg really heavy soles where you would expect lightweight shock absorbing soles in similar styles on the high street.
