So me and the oh need to do a big shop, can't do it online ax we don't have enough money to spend 25 quid and we need a lot of the stuff today.

We don't drive and its a mile there and a mile back.

Is it sensible for a new of us to push the trolley and the other one the pram? We'll take up so much space!!

Not to mention we'll have to walk home with back packs and bags of shopping :(

Would you just take over the supermarket with all your shit for and hour lol!

Been! A few tutting old people not being very forgiving but got it all done. Seems I was a bit forgiving with the distance was actually 4 miles altogether! All over with though :)

Can't you just add some nappies into the shop?

GlitzAndGigglesx · 22/05/2015 16:41

I'm glad you went. Pay no mind to what others think!

A few tutting old people not being very forgiving but got it all done.

I got tutted at recently. Me, dp, baby in a pram plus a basket not a trolley, and a fairly big storage box I'd bought in another shop.

First a man shook his head really dramatically when he had to walk around me while I rearranged my box (oi oi). Then a woman tutted and said 'I'll just go this way then " because I hadn't mindread and realised she wanted to get to the bit I was looking at. What's wrong with an old fashioned 'excuse me please'?

Anywho, sorry to hear about your money situation op. I do hope it improves but enjoy the time with your baby while you're on mat leave. Smile

Have you been somewhere like CAB to check you've definitely getting all the benefits you're eligible for?

I don't have a car and I find a sling very useful. Perhaps you could put a wanted ad on your local freecycle to see if anyone's giving one away. I wouldn't bother with one without a waist strap as baby will soon be too heavy. But anyway it is fine to use a trolley and pushchair. I wish more supermarkets had locked cupboards for pushchairs.

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 22/05/2015 17:46

Look for a local sling library and you can rent various slings and get help on how to use them, once you find one that suits you it'll give you so much freedom. I carry my 2.5 yr old using a wrap or ring sling.

madwomanacrosstheroad · 22/05/2015 18:00

What is the issue, if the pram os a reasonable size you LL be able to fit a good bit of shopping in the basket underneath instead of carrying it home. I had it down to a fine art, milk, tins, jars, bottles and potatoes in the basket under the pram, about four bags tied to the handle and a rucksack for the rest. Depending on baby/ pram size you may be able to stuff some things around the baby's feet as well. Miss going shopping with the pram.

madwomanacrosstheroad · 22/05/2015 18:07

Have you claimed tax credits? Agree pram hooks are a bit of a waste of money. I used to tie bags on handle. In terms of sling, slings are great, but maybe not if you also have a lot of shopping to carry. I sometimes piled all the shopping in the pram and then carried baby in sling. I always had sturdy pushchairs.

5YearsTime · 22/05/2015 22:09

You poor thing that sounds shit! Well done on the budgeting though! Was thinking about you today when I did my shopping, we ended up in 3 supermarkets with a pram and a trolley.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 27/05/2015 12:14

Sorry I didn't notice people had commented after the event. To answer a few questions

Our pram is a bit naff and it needs to last through the toddler years too, suspension goes to shit if tins and such are in there too, so tins went on mine and OH's back lol.

Yes I'm claiming all my tax credits I'm entitled to (not entitled to WTC) and it's based on my FT wage last year. I can't give them a prediction for this years earnings as I have changed my hours for when I go back to work and they won't confirm they agree or confirm my salary. Pah!

Sling - a very kind friend has made me a sling. I'm not shopping ready yet though! still doing test runs on it as my old back isn't used to all that weight on my tummy, poor posture on my part I guess! :) lol

But at least I have the sling to go with now!! :)

Be careful with home made slings, it depends on the material as to how sturdy it is and if you get the right one for you I promise you you won't have back ache just from that.

Failing to see any issue here. I do this most days with a trolley, pushchair and four other children. Never even occured to me that anyone would give a hoot!

SurlyCue · 27/05/2015 13:16

For coming home OP you could get one of those shopping carts that tend to be used by older ladies. I have seen them in my local charity shops for a couple of quid.

PrimroseEverdeen · 27/05/2015 17:10

You need a sling!

Buttercup27 · 27/05/2015 17:13

We take a double buggy (side by side ) and have a big trolley when we are brave enough to venture into a supermarket and it's never been a problem.

keepsmiling2015 · 27/05/2015 17:26

I would never have thought it was an issue to bring a pram around a supermarket, or any shop.
