the dc are turning 8 and 10.....can i skip the party bags this year?

was thinking kinder egg and a slice of cake in a bag instead

or book from the book people and slice of cake in a bag.....

any better ideas?

I think your suggestions are fine. It's just a little something to take home.

I think as long as they have something to take home They're happy, I wrapped up a book each in pretty paper (4 year olds) they were well chuffed!

Personally,I hate all the party bag tat, so would much rather have a book :)

what you are suggesting comes in a bag so your still doing, party bags but they sound fine.

I would do even less. Just give them a packet of sweets as they go. I would not give out books.

Kinder egg is fine with cake. Lovely. I'm always a bit nonplussed when my now ten year old comes home with a bag of whistles, sweets and bloody hand clappers.

I did a small gift for each guest at my 4 year old's party. Amazing what you can pick up in the pound shop

I never do party bags, no one has ever passed comment

I do slice of cake and if under 5 helium balloon too. That's it. No bags of rubbish here.

Inflatable guitars worked very well. Everyone loved them, better value and looked great. Took a little while to blow up but not that long.

For YD (10) s party we cut up the cake to serve with the buffet and they were thrilled 'we never get to eat cake together at parties!' and then she stood at the door as they left and gave each one a mini bag of haribo and said thanks for coming.
Kids were nonplussed. Parents really liked it!

Similar to mini bags of haribos. For the last 3 years, I've just been giving out packets of individually wrapped fortune cookies at the end of the party as dad's birthday is generally very close to Chinese New Year. Dd is 10.

Just do the cake, I reckon.

I would have thought something consumable is better than more stuff, even something as 'worthy' as a book (and I say this as someone who adores books)...

I'd love to not so party bags, and would love any parent who didn't do them. Unfortunately my SIL is big into party bags full of plastic tat, and DH says we have to do the same or she'll think we're being stingy. I couldn't care less what she thinks, but DH is insisting he'll do them if I don't, and I can't imagine how much crap he'd buy if it was up to him, so I'll end up doing them. I'm thinking cake and maybe a colouring book and some sweets would do when DS is 1.
