Ds2(1) has had a cough which got worse yesterday and after dinner was really wheezing/grunting when breathing so I phoned 111 for advice - they said breathing difficulties in a baby means going to A&E

So off we went. For 6 bastarding hours. Didn't get home til well after midnight.

Because I live in a university city and a load of them had got off their faces on 'legal highs' and then needed medical assistance.

Thanks to them I had to wait for hours with a screaming, overtired, can't breathe baby so aibu to think they were selfish pricks?

I do understand where you are coming from, and I have no doubt I would have felt the same in your situation last night.

However, you do say that some of the students looked to be "in a right state". The medical staff cannot be judgemental regarding how a patient got to be in the state they are in - they have to treat everyone by need regardless of what they've been taking/doing. So, if their cases were considered more immediately dangerous than your DS2's, then they may well have been seen first or seemed to be made more of a priority.

I do think it's awful that A&E's across the UK are full of dangerously drunk (or high) people most weekend nights. I'm not saying those people shouldn't receive treatment - of course they should - but it does make me cross that other ill patients are having to wait longer, be treated in corridors etc, because the department is being stretched by too many people who didn't know when to stop drinking.

Your baby couldn't have been in as dire a state as you thought if you had to wait so long. Take it as a good thing.
And diagnosed with asthma at 1? That's unusual.
