So..due to not very happy childhood I can be very socially challenged/not pick up or miss social 'cues' . I am on Linked In but tbh never looked at since someone told me i should get on it. But I got an 'invite to coffee meeting' from someone I dont know with "I am always keen to meet interesting professionals such as yourself and see if we can help drive any efficiencies". His business/career history is nowhere related to mine -totally/massively different busineses.

Is this re a possible job (surely he'd mention that if so/but then again i am crap at 'subtle' too ) or should i be bit careful re meeting strangers for coffee even tho they have a profile (that could be fake for all i know) on a career website? In my head I am hearing my mad DM and her every stranger from 18-80 is a potential mad axe murderer theory....

No....don't go. That's not a "normal" thing to happen especially since your business is nothing like his.

jerryfudd · 20/05/2015 14:59

Nope, don't go. Doubt he's contacting men

Theycallmemellowjello · 20/05/2015 15:00

Yeah this seems weird. I doubt there's any danger in meeting in a public place, but I'd presume it was a copy and pasted message and he's trying to sell something (probably dodgy recruitment services). But if you're curious (and I would be) why not message him to find out more details?

WorraLiberty · 20/05/2015 15:02

He's probably going to try to sell you a pyramid scheme.

AlpacaLypse · 20/05/2015 15:02

I've never had a bona fide contact like this through Linked In. In fact I've never had any useful contact whatsoever through Linked In! I really must get round to deleting my account.

Reddragon116 · 20/05/2015 15:03

Trying to sell you something would be my guess

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 20/05/2015 15:16

Almost definitely a pyramid scheme, as he's so vague about it in the message. I wouldn't meet him if I were you.

Sazzle41 · 20/05/2015 15:28

Well glass half full that he probably isnt 'a mad axe murderer' then ! God are pyramid schemes still going? I wont go - if i do need another job tbh I have really good contacts in the area I work in already.

Yep, pyramid or MLM. That's how they market. I have friends into MLM and they invite us for coffee or hold a party and it turns out to not be a social event at all but a selling opportunity. Sad thing is they're not friends any more because I won't meet them or go to their house any more bwcAus you can't have a chat without the effing MLM sales pitch.

Casimir · 20/05/2015 17:08

Amway. does that still happen? Did it happen in UK?

KimCarCrashAVan · 20/05/2015 17:16

I agree with everyone else that this sounds very dodgey and that you shouldn't go.

It was really good that you thought to check. Scammers always sound so plausible and nice. That's their job!

Apricota · 20/05/2015 20:49

LinkedIn is good, but this sounds very very strange, do not go.

PesoPenguin · 20/05/2015 22:14

Agree that he's trying to sell you something.
