young as you feel, it's only a number, at my age i'm past caring giving a damn what others think of me, get out there and do it all, and enjoy yourself, worrying is a total waste of time imo.

Happybodybunny12 · 19/05/2015 16:51

Excuse me I am 50 and hotter than ever!Grin

All my kids are grown up and we are free!!!

I do feel a bit Hmm for my 40 something friends with young kids.

They seem happy though! Grin

Fingeronthebutton · 19/05/2015 16:57

My Daughter is older than you. I can't imagine that thought ever entering her head. Some people are just born 'old'

mrsfuzzy · 19/05/2015 16:57

happy - you go girl, good for you ! 50 is a brilliant age to be, dc's getting independent, 15 months to go on mortgage, lots of free time with dh and loving every minute ! don't mourn for lost youth, enjoy new adventures.

DinosaursRoar · 19/05/2015 16:58

Meh, that's half way to 86, so probably the middle of your life. It's just we've got used to pensioners being described as "middle aged".

I'm not young any more, I'm not old yet, I'm in the middle.

Embrace it, this is a good bit, too old to give a shit about lots of stuff, no old age health issues yet.

Mrsjayy · 19/05/2015 16:59

Im 44 i dunno if im middle aged or not, not that it matter my kids are grown too its great

PacificDogwood · 19/05/2015 17:00

Well, if you live to 100, it's certainly not middle-aged Grin

I'm 49, have been qualified for 23 years now and was told today I was 'too young for a doctor'. Made my day even though the person in question was 95 and had dementia - I take my compliments were I can get them!

You're middle-aged whenever you identify with that. I've known middle-aged 30 year olds and very 'young' 80 year olds.

Hope you have a lovely birthday when it comes Thanks

Mousefinkle · 19/05/2015 17:01

Well yes, it technically is middle aged if you're going by average life expectancy. However I think most people consider 50+ to be middle aged.

Feminine · 19/05/2015 17:02

I'm 43.
I don't know?
Try not to think about it would be my advice! ;)
Happy birthday.

ShatnersBassoon · 19/05/2015 17:03

Yeah, it is middle aged. It's a label that indicates you're somewhere between young and old (which is undeniable), not an assessment of how youthful you look or feel. I'm middle aged, no shame in that.

fredabear · 19/05/2015 17:04

45 this summer and still think of myself as in my 30s, then I remember that I'm fitter, slimmer and happier than I ever was then, I love my 40s so don't care if its middle aged, its fab!

sanfairyanne · 19/05/2015 17:05

course it is! it doesn't have to mean 'fuddy duddy' you know, just means you are neither young nor old

morethanpotatoprints · 19/05/2015 17:08

You take the average age people live to and half it.
we are lucky now people live longer, mid age used to be 35 Shock
I suppose if you lived in the dark ages 20 might have been middle aged.
you are as old as the man you feel Grin
I feel younger at 48 than I did at 29 when older dc were baby and preschooler.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 19/05/2015 17:16

You're only as old as you feel. I think 'middle aged' is when you start to get all faffy when you travel anywhere and read the Daily Mail or Express.

DP and I have just got back from holiday and one thing I always notice is that, as well as a few teens/20s groups and families with preschoolers, there are an awful lot of 'middle aged couples' (late 40s and above) and my god do they faff about in airport security, toilets, getting on planes etc.

I'm 43 next year Shock and I'm nowhere near that stage in life.

SenecaFalls · 19/05/2015 17:20

Why is it a concern for you, OP? There's nothing wrong with being middle aged.

Floralnomad · 19/05/2015 17:21

I'm older than you and I don't consider myself middle aged .

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/05/2015 17:22

All the best people are 43

Mrsjayy · 19/05/2015 17:23

I get faffy when i travel im doomed Grin

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/05/2015 17:23

According to someone at work you're well past it because middle aged is... 29 Shock Shock Shock Angry

43 isn't middle aged. That's about 50 and the middle's the good bit in almost everything isn't it? Jammie dodgers, the year, sausage rolls, Wagon Wheels and being pregnant. The middle bit is best :)

BitOutOfPractice · 19/05/2015 17:23

I'm nearly 48 and I'm not middle aged

Jackie0 · 19/05/2015 17:24

I honestly enjoy getting older, most aspects of it anyway .
I certainly don't feel any shame or depression or whatever it is you're dreading at being middle aged.
Yes 43 is middle aged, if I live to 86 I'll be delighted.
We are obsessed with youth Sad

PacificDogwood · 19/05/2015 17:25

The word 'middle-aged' has such negative connotations - I don't mind being in the middle of my life (not young, not old), but I do mind the image problem the middle-aged seem to have.
So I do my best to treat my age as a number, not a verdict.

Cheer up, OP! Thanks

WalterMittyish · 19/05/2015 17:25

I'd say mid forties is middle aged (and I'm in that age bracket myself). How long do you expect to live?

I also don't understand why being termed 'middle aged' is a bad thing - because that's what it is. I'm happier than I was in my twenties and thirties, by a long shot.

PacificDogwood · 19/05/2015 17:26

Oh gawd, yes, the freedom advancing years and experience brings!
Speaking your mind, knowing yourself, not wanting to be everybody's friend - all v liberating.
