AIBU to ask you to save a life (maybe)

Inspired by other posters regarding blood donation I have decided to ask you for help on my behalf. I am currently pregnant so have had to come off the register of bone marrow donation list until after my pregnancy. So I was wondering if I could ask those of you between 16 and 30 to join the register in my (temporary) absence. After all, you never know when you, a relative or friend may need a donor.

All you need to do is sign up to the Anthony Nolan register at www.anthonynolan.org/apply-join-bone-marrow-register . They send you a spit kit in the post so that you can do a quick saliva sample. That's it- you can then continue as normal, staying on the register until you are 60.

You will be contacted if your a genetic match for a patient with blood cancer or a blood disorder needs a lifesaving stem cell transplant.

It is a common misconception that it will be very painful and involve a lengthy medical procedure to be a donor. In fact, most people (9 out of 10) donate their stem cells in a quick and easy process similar to giving blood.

I posted in AIBU for traffic, witch I hate others doing, but this really is a good cause... So please forgive me.

Already on it, but you've reminded me to spread the word again...

Mintyy, you can always report the thread and allow MNHQ decide whether this is appropriate or not.
These threads come up from time to time and always generate some new/lapsed donors.
Well worth while doing IMO.

Mintyy · 19/05/2015 21:05

No, I don't want to report the thread thanks. I just want to say.

Jessica2point0 · 19/05/2015 21:06

Not unreasonable at all! In fact, you've reminded me that I'm due to give blood (I'm already on the bone marrow register). Thanks!

I'm on the Delete Blood Cancer register... I've been son a couple of years but heard nothing so far.

Registered a couple of years ago, so simple. Just waiting to be able to help Smile

If for various reasons, of health or suitability, you have been unable to join the register or donate blood ... or even if you are just hanging around waiting to be called upon ... can I suggest that you do something equally wonderful?

Take a short course on emergency first aid.

If we could all do basic CPR and knew what to do in the event of a choke, injury, fit or collapse, what brilliant bystanders we would be to have around!

Thank you all so much for all the things you are doing and keeping the thread current x
