Do you ever get a little freaked out about how much info MN (should any insider bother to link to your details) have you on?

MNHQ, if you're listening, I imagine your interest in snooping on posters is essentially nil, and that you're far too busy to bother.

But, at a click of a button MN could cut through all our name changes and piece together pretty extensive character assassination.
Does this scare you, MNers??

Someone challenged people to find out as much as they could about her a while ago, and I think was pretty shocked by how much information people came up with. The information from MN then made her findable on other sites where she wasn't anonymous.

It's hard to imagine why people would bother but it is possible.

A few years ago someone I worked with had a problem with the management at work. She told a few of us about the problem, and one colleague casually googled the problem to see what other people had done in that situation.

She found the exact problem on a forum (not MN). It was our colleague. She read through her posts and found many posts slagging off the place of work, the management and us! There were also details of phoney sick days. She printed them and gave them to management, it was used in disciplinary procedures against her.

Also there's a brilliant episode of Parks & Recreation where they have to find the most dirt on each other. It's hilarious.

Nobody is forced to post on here, nobody is forced to disclose personal information. Nobody needs to post on here, they choose to. If it was anonymised it would be 4Chan. Try going on 4Chan and asking if you're being unreasonable about your child's birthday party, then come back and tell us if you would like to get the same sort of responses when you post on here.
