WIBU to take potentially infectious DD to the cinema?

Pseudo341 · 18/05/2015 18:48

DD threw up all over her bed in the middle of the night last night, several times. She was still feeling a bit rough this morning but has now bounced back in true 4 year old style. Her preschool has a 48 hour rule for sending kids in after they've been sick which is fair enough. She's going to be bouncing off the walls tomorrow wanting entertainment. I'm disabled so have limited options as to what I can do with her. I'm looking at an 11am showing on a school day. I figure we'd book tickets in advance so just stop at the collection machine and then go in and not sit near anyone, we can always move seats if someone's bought ones near us, it'll be deserted. Okay or not?

Totally unreasonable. Why would you do that?
Stay at home and put a DVD on

00100001 · 18/05/2015 18:49

I'd keep her away and have a quiet day at home tbh

00100001 · 18/05/2015 18:50

If she infectious at school she's infectious at the cinema

TheFairyCaravan · 18/05/2015 18:50

Not ok.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 18/05/2015 18:50

Really not ok.

SaucyJack · 18/05/2015 18:52

I wouldn't. Not least because it's setting yourself up for trouble in future if your DD learns that sick days get spent having fun at the cinema.

Imachocolateportal · 18/05/2015 18:52

I can certainly see why you are tempted, but I wouldn't risk it. High chance she is still infectious and in a cinema, that won't be cleaned proprty in between screenings, could be passed on quickly too.

Also my kids have a habit of perking up and seeming ok only to start vomiting again when I thought they were better. I would hate to be stuck in the cinema with a sicky child.

nooptionforwillis · 18/05/2015 18:52

Please don't. It's not fair on everyone else.

HicDraconis · 18/05/2015 18:53

Not ok. The 48h rule is there for a reason - I've known children who were returned early to childcare with a similar story, to then continue vomiting after having been fine for 24h and passing it to the others. Including mine, who then gave it to me. Stay at home please!

FlossieTreadlight · 18/05/2015 18:53

Definitely not ok, sorry

Northernlurker · 18/05/2015 18:53

I don't think that would be wise. If she is sick at the cinema (and she probably won't be but it IS a risk) then it will be beyond grim and is an infection risk to other people.

Are there any parks accessible to you nearby? Or a river path or something like that where you could safely do a nature spot with her? No reason why you can't get some fresh air, she's not going to put anybody at risk like that.

Failing that - home made playdough?

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 18/05/2015 18:54

What happens if she voms in the cinema?

EeyoresTail · 18/05/2015 18:54

Adding to the stay at home votes

00100001 · 18/05/2015 18:55

Oh YABU

Triliteral · 18/05/2015 18:55

If she is still off preschool on the grounds that she might be infectious, how is it any better to go somewhere else where people congregate? Even if you don't sit near anyone, other people will have to sit in those seats later. If she has an accident, (either end) the staff will have to clean it up. Please just do the responsible thing and stay home for the suggested period.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 18/05/2015 18:55

Our school has a 24 hour rule for vomiting alone. So by my school rules, as long as your dd has not been sick for a 24 hour period you would be fine.

nornironrock · 18/05/2015 18:55

In all probability she's not infectious... We've had this with our two about half a dozen times. They puke during the night, two or three times, get everything out, and four hours later they are absolutely fine. I get why places say to keep them away for a couple of days (just in case)... but I really am surprised that all the other posts are telling you to stay at home....

Of course, it depends on the child. My two are extremely robust and don't need or want recovery time from stuff like that, your daughter may or may not be the same....

Hope you enjoy the movie. I love going early on a school day, and having hardly anyone there!!!

chocolatelife · 18/05/2015 18:55

god no.
that isnt even going to help calm her.

4 year olds in the cinema bad at the best of times.

I wouldn't, not even for infection reasons, more the embarrassment of my child potentially throwing up everywhere in the cinema and having to deal with it and take them home after paying lots to be there Shock

TenerifeSea · 18/05/2015 18:57

YABU, stay at home.

Pseudo341 · 18/05/2015 19:09

She's kept down a bit of rice at lunch time and a normal tea so I'm confident she's not going to be sick again. Do people really think she's going to leave a bit of infection behind by sitting on the cinema seat? If there's seriously a chance of infecting someone else I won't take her, I just wanted to know what the actual risks are.

Looks like it's an day at home then.
