Just for the room - not meal, drinks etc.

DB&B deal for my birthday (and first night off/away since DS born) at a posh country hotel. All quite okay (not brilliant, but okay). Woken at 5am by the radio/alarm clock as it hadn't been checked by housekeeping. Me and DP unable to get back to sleep. Come home knackered and cranky and £200 lighter (we're on a tight budget). They did give us a small box of home-made fudge to make up for it.

YABU - pretty obvious to most people that you set the alarm for the time you want it, and not expect housekeeping to be able to guess that.

Theycallmemellowjello · 18/05/2015 16:04

Unreasonable, and also now you've accepted the fudge I think they'd be within their rights to refuse to give any form of partial refund too. You should have refused the fudge and negotiated.

curlyweasel · 18/05/2015 16:05

Grin I guess IABU then! I think the box of fudge sort of tipped me over the edge of reason(ableness). x

Lol. Things are always someone else's fault! YADBU

Diamond23 · 18/05/2015 16:06

I wouldn't expect them to check it actually (or a nice hotel to have a radio alarm- surely you ask for a wake up call) bad luck but not refund worthy

curlyweasel · 18/05/2015 16:06

We didn't set the alarm - it hadn't been unset iyswim (business stay I imagine) from 5am. We didn't set it because we wanted a lie in. Just didn't realise we should have unset it. Ah well, I've got the fudge now!

Enjoy the fudge op and try and get some sleep. Xxxx.

I think the OP's point was that the clock shouldn't have had an alarm set, not that housekeeping should have divined what time she wanted to get up and set the alarm for then. I can completely see how annoying this would be OP, but it is just unfortunate that you were both unable to get back to sleep, which is the real problem and outwith the hotel's control.

Ear plugs..do you have any?

ShatnersBassoon · 18/05/2015 16:12

It's just bad luck. I might have thought to check it, but probably not, so I'd have kicked myself.

SoonToBeSix · 18/05/2015 16:13

I actually think yanbu premier inn would have refunded you under their good night guarantee.

curlyweasel · 18/05/2015 16:15

I do - the alarm still would've woken me though.

Are alarm clocks a bit too naff for country hotels then? Is £200 a cheap deal for one night (oop north). Serious question.

Soon It should be standard in all hotels IMO. But then I would say that.
