Just that really. Dd (12) has become a bit obsessed with her phone and the telly. Never needed rules before but feel as if we need them now.

It doesn't always work, but in theory our rule is that you can have unlimited screen time, but only after all homework and music practice is done, and bedrooms are completely tidy. Those things take considerably longer than you might think, and the DCs often get distracted into playing a game or going to park, so they don't actually spend that much time glued to screens, while we never look like big ole meanies rationing them to half an hour a night or so.

I stopped saying no screen time until chores/homework done because I found they were being rushed through with no quality so they could get on those rotten screen.

Now we have an hour each a day, which really means 2 as they watch each other's time.

It's Ok when you're talking TV/XBox or PC but gets really hard to manage when they've got small handheld devices, especially phones with internet/games and I suspect mine go over the 2 hours most days but at least there is some limit.

What I would say is, banning all gadgets from bedrooms is a very good idea.

Thanks both of you. We banned the phone from the bedroom and that's helped a lot. She's exhausted from school most days (busy day, long walk to and fro) so we'd kind of let her just take time out as and when. Now though she does little else before and after her homework so we were going to set a limit.
