That's it really...

The SNP's ultimate goal is independence for Scotland. That goal is much more likely to happen if there is a very unpopular government in Westminster. It's much easier for Westminster to be portrayed as the bad guys in London that don't care about Scotland when it's the Tories.

obscuredbyclouds2 · 16/05/2015 19:58

You don't know my point of view but I think this election was all about fear, negativity and tactical voting

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 16/05/2015 20:01

Yep because the electorate in England were so terrified that the SNP MPs might vote alongside labour that they left a party they strongly believed in and voted conservative and UKIP instead...

Or you know, labour's in deep trouble so they didn't vote for them...

Nope, the first one seems much much more likely.

obscuredbyclouds2 · 16/05/2015 20:04

Thousands of people knew their vote would be worthless and thousands of people voted for a party they didn't believe in.

OP posts:
EddieStobbart · 16/05/2015 20:09

Why would their vote have been useless? Because of the narrative that the Evil Scots want to steal the bread from poor little non-Scottish babies mouths? Yeah, that's Old Nic's fault.

HirplesWithHaggis · 16/05/2015 20:11

How is Nicola responsible for the voting practices of thousands of English voters? (That's the fourth rephrasing of that question...)

obscuredbyclouds2 · 16/05/2015 20:12

No it was worthless because of our electoral system - stop being so defensive

OP posts:
HirplesWithHaggis · 16/05/2015 20:15

So Nicola invented fptp too? Shock Is there nothing this woman cannot do?

Ubik1 · 16/05/2015 20:18

I don't buy all this guff about the SNP terrifying labour voters into voting Tory.
If you voted Tory then just fucking own it.

Christ I prefer the ones who voted Tory and are out and proud to the ones whining about being scared of a legitimate political party which is anti austerity/anti nuclear and pro living wage. What a terrifying prospect fir a labour voter.

YoScience · 16/05/2015 20:19

Oh another anti-Scottish thread!

Cameron would be better thanking the English, as it certainly wasn't the Scots, Welsh or Irish that voted him in!

obscuredbyclouds2 · 16/05/2015 20:34

This certainly wasn't supposed to be an anti-Scottish thread - my family would be devastated. If you're bored with the subject - which I find intriguing- then just move on. No offence was intended.

WHY SHOULD DAVID CAMERON THANK NICOLA STURGEON FOR KEEPING HIM IN POWER? HOW DID SHE DO THIS?

EddieStobbart · 16/05/2015 20:46

If someone "fears" the Scottish influence so much they voted Tory then that's their concern.

Maybe Cameron has changed his mind about Scotland staying in the Union and the tone of the election campaign was his way of ensuring it is revisited.

Do you think the state of the country's finances is down to too many benefits claimants?

Absolutely - the cow.

If I were Lynton Crosby I would be smug as fuck from here to eternity. The Tories used the SNP to pull a number on the electorate, it worked and the SNP get the blame for it.

TheChandler · 16/05/2015 21:25

Maybe you could just write us all a little note to sign so we can all trot off and thank the Great Nicola personally.

When you find yourself alone in a room of you and two other SNP acolytes, could you make sure its well sound proofed please?

Total crap. People voted for the Conservatives because they prefer their policies and trust them with the economy. I am sick to death of reading on here that people's choice were in any way affected by the SDP or Labour's perceived failings.

Chipstick10 · 16/05/2015 21:53

Why should people be made to feel guilty and dirty for voting conservative ? It's a democracy and many people didnt trust or want labour running the country . That's it

obscuredbyclouds2 · 16/05/2015 22:38

People voted for the Conservatives for any number of reasons silver.
You are entitled to your opinion of course - a shame you can't be more tolerant of mine.

Viviennemary · 16/05/2015 22:47

Nicola Sturgeon threw the gauntlet down to middle England and they picked it up and voted for Cameron. That's only my take of course. But she's too shrewd to admit she made a mistake and Dave is too much of a gentleman to gloat. At least not in public anyway. I saw a programme that said she was glad the Tories got in because it will help the Nationalist cause.

RJnomore · 16/05/2015 22:52

I detest the snp and even I don't think wee nic had anything much to do with the way England voted.

funnyossity · 16/05/2015 23:03

The feedback I had from people who surprised me by voting Conservative was that it was because of the economy and not trusting Labour. (Ex Labour voters btw)

JoanHickson · 16/05/2015 23:09

Not trusting Labour or not trusting Balls? I wouldn't trust him with the laundry never mind the economy.

AgentProvocateur · 16/05/2015 23:15

If people in England are thick and fickle enough to change their vote according to what they read in the right-wing press, they deserve the government they've got. I don't believe that a whole load of voters were so scared of the SNP supporting labour that they changed to vote conservative. I don't believe that people are that stupid

funnyossity · 16/05/2015 23:30

Balls came in for a lot of stick!
