Recruitment agencies - this is wrong, right?

I won't include the back story but I've been searching for a new job. Had a 2nd interview at a place earlier this week and he offered me the job on the spot, then made me wrangle with him on the salary face to face (I'm much better at doing that in email or on the phone). I accepted, because I was sitting in front of him and it was awkward, but knew straight away I didn't want to take it.

I gave it some thought and contacted the recruitment agency the next day to explain that I was turning the role down and explained my reasons. I was resolute, made it clear there was no changing my mind but thanked them for their help.

Since then I have been plagued by phone calls from both the advisor AND the branch manager, one even calling at 8.30pm at night! Asking me to reconsider etc....

Now, I know they are a business and I've probably done them out of some commission but I just feel this isn't on. I want to get a bit shitty with them but I'm also aware that I don't want to burn my bridges in case they have something better in a few months.

WIBU to tell them to fck the fck off and stop bothering me??

You accepted and then pulled out - that agency is never going to help you again so don't worry about that. If you pulled out because of salary be honest and maybe it can be renegotiated.

I think you should have refused the job at the time (as you had every right to do) if you weren't happy with the salary. I'm not surprised they're a bit pissed off if you accepted then gave back word.

She didn't seem unhappy about that. She was more unhappy that he'd offered me the job whilst there as that's what a recruitment agency is for. I felt under pressure to accept and then explained my reason afterwards.

Never, ever engage in discussions over rates, pay or salary if you go through an agency.
The polite response is "please talk to xyz about this"
