Picture the scene, important meeting regarding my childerbeast, im prattling on about a trip we have coming up and how I'll be getting some work done when I came out with this corker.......

'Ooohhh, I've been having a right mare getting my damp patch sorted, can't get anyone to even look at it'

Deathly silence.

Looks up, 1 lady doing the silent laughing thing, second lady openly hooting., poor bloke in corner like this Shock eventually turning into an unsure snort.

Eventually was broken by a screeched, 'eee, you do have a way with words Trio.'.

Im still Blush when the very feck will I learn to think before I speak ??!

cross-posted with you Cactus.

And back to the point of the OP rather than petty squabbling between posters and derailment...

I thought it was funny Trio. Kind of thing I'd say in all innocence, a la Miranda Smile

fairenuff... I would NEVER have got that in a month of Sundays. Shock What's the origin of it, is it famous to a region?

and no, people shouldn't be sneered at for asking or accused of lying, all in the tone of asking, I guess. It's quite difficult to pick up inference and tone on a chatboard. I definitely need to look before I leap!

EponasWildDaughter · 16/05/2015 11:23

Well OP - bet you didn't expect all this on your lighthearted thread Grin

MetallicBeige · 16/05/2015 11:56

Bloody hell, I forget my inverted commas and look what happens, 'more highbrow than thou'. People were piling on with the arched eyebrow, to tell the op, "it wasn't that funny, not worth cringing over for days" etc. People don't need to 'understand' why op is embarassed, she just was, she's allowed that.
Can't speak for her, but it seems that she just wanted to share her embarrassing moment (personal to her) and asked others to share theirs. There's no barometer for "not embarrassing enough, can't post here" is there?

And some people were being disingenuous about the childerbeest thing, another way to take a swipe at the op. Deny all you like now it's been called out. But that's AIBU for you.

Now I am taking my own childerbeest out, it describes mine perfectly. Good luck with your damp patch OP Grin.

Fairenuff · 16/05/2015 12:02

I'm confused, who first used the word 'highbrow' and what did they mean by it? Is it anything to do with the 'eyebrow'? Grin

MetallicBeige · 16/05/2015 12:05

Me, Faire Grin I used it I the sense some, not all posters were alluding to the humour "damp patch" being somewhat base, therefore preferring a more 'highbrow' sort of humour. They probably did the arched eyebrow thing though, whilst peering through their monacles.
