Currently 40+5 weeks pg, not touched a drop of alcohol throughout my pregnancy but this week has been the longest week ever and I'm feeling very stressed. Would it be wrong to have just one glass of white wine. I know iv gone 9 month without it and I should probably just wait the extra bit iv got left but I'm so stressed and fed up, a small glass of wine would be perfect right now!

The night before my induction at 41 weeks I bounced on my ball and drank the best tasting glass of red I have ever had. It helped me sleep when I was sick with nerves and spent the next 36 hours crying/birthing/feeding etc

Bogeyface · 15/05/2015 23:47

I couldn't forgive myself for feeding my baby alcohol

Well if you were sending baby to bed with a bottle of JD then you would have a point. A small glass of wine being drunk by the mother is hardly the same as feeding a baby alcohol Hmm

Dontlaugh · 15/05/2015 23:53

Spottybottycream
How IS that tone on the high moral ground?
Out of touch, perhaps?
OP is 40+5, not 6 weeks looking for advice on best way to cook meth....
Get over yourself.
OP - have your glass of wine.
Enjoy it and recall it during labour Smile

Eleven years ago today, I'd had an appallingly shit day, one of the highlights was my hand getting trapped in the car door.

I thought fuck it, and had a glorious crispy cold bloody lovely glass of Pinot.

Then an hour late my waters broke.

I went to hospital, and then I had a baby that was immediately whisked off to social service after a brief stop to enrol him on the five steps to sobriety and I was I prisoned for ever in bad mothers jail.

Dontlaugh · 15/05/2015 23:57

Honeydragon
you is naughty for stirring the shit.......
But he's grand now, isn't he?!

Bogeyface · 15/05/2015 23:58

Actually, its just occurred to me that after feeding my baby a glass and a half of wine the day before she was born, she has developed rather a liking for the pub!

It could be because of the great play area and because it is exactly halfway between home and our friends house so we meet there a lot in the summer, but I am now beginning to wonder if she she is sneaking into the bar to suck the dregs out of the drip mats.....

SweetPeaSoup · 15/05/2015 23:59

I'm 39+6 too, and wishing I had some in the fridge!

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2015 00:00

Well depends on your definition of fine?

I have slightly whiffy imminently twelve year old festering in his pit upstairs. And I'm rather fond of him and he's somewhat good at school. So on the whole I think, possibly, no harm done Wink

Chickenfillets · 16/05/2015 10:17

Didn't have my wine last night because by the time dp got back with it I was half asleep. Due to be induced Monday but woke up this morning and had my bloody show. Me and dp and going to have a nice relaxing night and I'll have my glass of wine, maybe it will relax me enough to kick this off and I won't have to be induced GrinGrin

Slowtrain2dawn · 16/05/2015 10:23

Sounds like you won't need to be induced at all! Good luck Smile

youmakemydreams · 16/05/2015 10:27

Sounds like you won't need to be induced and you may not even get your glass of wine tonight either Grin
The night before ds2 was born I had a huge craving for a beer. Made exh open one so I could have some. Was the best cold beer ever and I don't usually drink beer.
Delivered at 9:30 the next morning.
My midwife had told me that week to go home have sex and a hot curry with a glass of wine. She said it won't bring on labour but it'll make you feel hell of a lot better. Grin

blueskydrinking79 · 16/05/2015 10:29

At 41 weeks i tried all induction methods. G and T kept being recommended. We'd none in the house so did whiskey and hot bath instead. Did the trick nicely. A bit too nicely in fact. DD arrived 35 mins after my waters broke that night and 7 mins after we arrived at the hospital.

Chickenfillets · 16/05/2015 10:37

Ooooo it's all sounding positive Smile

When I read your post I did it thinking Ooh labour is imminent. Totally anecdotal of course but I know so many people that have craved that wine or beer and had a baby the next day.
I'm feeling very excited for you now. Is it your first? I had my show either when having contractions or they started few hours later with all three.
Try and rest be good to yourself today you may be needing all that energy later on.

Chickenfillets · 16/05/2015 11:06

Yeah this is my first Smile iv not really been to bothered about alcohol during my pregnancy and not really missed having a good old slurp but yesterday it was all I could think about. Keep having pulsing pains in the bottom of my back which iv never had before. Going to relax all day maybe have a few bounces on my ball and just see what happens Grin

Maggie Howell actually says in her Natal Hypnotherapy book to take 2 paracetamol and a small brandy (together?) when in early labour and then to get some sleep. I guess the theory is it helps you sleep?

I posted something similar a few months back. I was almost due on nye and had a small prosecco to toast in 2015.

applejacksauntie · 16/05/2015 11:25

Ooh this could turn into a live birth thread! Please keep us updated chicken!

youmakemydreams · 16/05/2015 11:26

Ooh sounding promising then. That sounds like things are starting to move around in there. How exciting. Grin

WoonerismSpit · 16/05/2015 11:28

Good luck! I remember the excitement of everything kicking off, the waiting for 3 effing days of labour for DD to arrive! Keep the wine on standby!

Morelikeguidelines · 16/05/2015 11:31

feeding my baby alcohol

Good God now I've heard it all on here.

I'm so certain it is fine by your stage.

My mum had a glass of a liquour drink when she was late with db (her second) and he arrived in early hours next morning. Had a bouncing 9 lb baby the next day who is now 6'2" professional in globe trotting job so I guess no harm done!

youmakemydreams · 16/05/2015 17:55

Came to see if there was any news. Hope you're comfortable whatever is happening chicken.

alwaysstaytoolong · 16/05/2015 18:06

Good God have a glass of wine. It is absolutely not feeding your baby alcohol!

Runningupthathill82 · 16/05/2015 18:15

I had a glass of wine at about 10pm on my due date. Felt huge, uncomfortable and thoroughly pissed off, as was so convinced DS was nowhere near coming.

Well, my small glass of red and a hot bath did wonders. I relaxed, stopped stressing so much and genuinely enjoyed the taste after missing it for so long.

Next thing, my back started hurting and within three hours or so I was in full blown labour.

Enjoy it OP, but make sure it's a decent bottle - you don't want to waste your one glass on a £3.99 job from the corner shop. In fact, get your DH sent out now for prosecco and some nice cheese...
