What a fantastic story! Good for them for stepping in.

(Ignores negative OP because it's ridiculous!)

It will have been annual leave. I'm a civil servant and we get to go and play in Barbados for a number of sports if you get through the heats. However, you have to take annual leave and pay for the flights and accommodation yourself.

What an obnoxious, goady thread.

DH works in the private sector and participated in a sporting thing a couple of years ago. His work paid for all the equipment (about £1000). They also paid all his travel and accommodation expenses. They consider it money well spent in team, skill and fitness building. I, as a taxpayer, would consider it benefits me to have a healthy, fit police force with sufficient loyalty to the job that they wouldn't ignore an accident while they're off duty.

As when in uniform they will be wearing boots they paid for, writing with pens they paid for, carrying all their paperwork in a folder they paid for and carrying their kit in a bag they paid for. I imagine they are using their own leave entitlement and pay they earnt

What a nasty, bitchy start to a thread. How heartwarming that the and one other are in a lonely wee minority of two.
