Have never taken MAP before (am 36!) is it like termination?

I really deliberated before posting this as I truly don't want to offend anyone who has had to take MAP.

I've had to name change as I'm so embarrassed that a 36 year old is asking this.

I've never taken emergency contraception before, just luckily haven't been in the situation where I would need it.

Anyway I've 2 under 2 with the youngest 5 months. First time dtd last night since baby Blush and had a contraception failure.

Oh shit Sad

Dh wants me to get MAP but out of nowhere I'm having worries. In the small chance that I'm pregnant, is MAP like a terminaton?

I don't really want a third child, we definitely can't afford it but I wouldn't harm one either.

I must sound so ignorant, I'm sorry.

Please someone reassure me that it's ok to take.

I hope I don't upset anyone by asking this q.

As everyone says, it's preventative not a termination.

But it is less effective as you get older, also the sooner you take it the better. So do keep that in mind. I took the MAP as we had a contraception failure when I was 38 (had moved countries to be with my now-husband and had been living with him two weeks. NOT the time to get preg!).

The result is now bouncing enthusiastically on the trampoline with Papa ..... We are utterly delighted with him but dear me the timing could have been better.

Alternatively, get yourself to the gp or sexual health clinic and get a coil fitted, which not only is effective up to 5 days after unprotected sex but also gives at least 5 years protection against unwanted pregnancy.

But the coil won't be acceptable either if OP isn't happy with preventing implantation of a fertilised embryo.

But she doesn't know whether or not it's fertilised.
