AIBU?

To ask if you think AIBUs starting with "to ask if" are not really AIBUs?

They're just attention-seeking queue-jumping bland little threads that wouldn't get the time of day elsewhere.

If the only way you can get a reply is to stick your thread in Aibu then maybe it just isn't that interesting.

YANBU - especially when the thread title gives you no clue as to what the question is about, e.g. "AIBU to ask...." is the thread title so you need to click on it to find out what the question is...grrrrrrr

Mintyy · 15/05/2015 09:14

Yanbu, but (and I shock myself when I say this, I really do) there is no point in asking. We have had this thread on a regular basis for years and years. People either find it irritating and that it actually dampens their enthusiasm for MN, or they really don't care and accuse those of us who do mind as being Thread Police.

HQ will never do anything about it.

A huge number of posters couldn't give a flying fuck.

Things aint gonna change Mardy.

But this thread starts with "to ask if..." Confused So is it not really a AIBU?

RiskManagement · 15/05/2015 09:43

IMO MN is at it's best when it's bunch of people with time on their hands discussing non-issues. That's where most of the Classics have started.

It's self managing. If no-one's interested, no-one replies. If you're not interested, especially if they've helpfully let you know you won't be in the title, don't look.

There are WAY too many subfora on Mumsnet.

balletnotlacrosse · 15/05/2015 11:13

I have no problem with threads that are not strictly AIBU but are interesting or funny. I don't understand the angst among some posters about whether some discussions are strictly AIBU material or not. This is the section of the forum that is liveliest and moves fastest so posters are drawn to it.

I am a bit Confused by threads asking boring mundane questions about whether to have chips for dinner, or somesuch. And I agree that thread titles that give no information whatsoever about the topic are irritating. But it is also irritating when someone opens a very clearly titled thread to say 'Oh, why are we discussing this again' or 'Have you nothing more important to worry about'. Just don't open the fucking thread if you don't want to discuss the matter in hand.
