Pornographic clothing

I've name changed for this because I've ranted about this to everyone who will listen.

Today I made a complaint about a clothing display in a blokes clothing shop. A stand right at the front of the shop which opens in to the main avenue of a shopping centre. On the stand were several sweatshirts each with an image on the front made to look like the cover of a porn mag. A naked young woman squatting with her legs wide apart, nipples covered by text but I think her vagina had just been blurred out. The sweatshirts were hanging at child's eye level, I know this because I had a child with me and they were at his eye level.

I collared a store assistant and at first and pointed out that it wasn't great to hang porn right in the faces of kids, he did move them but I don't know where.

The AIBU bit is this. WIBU to request that these sweaters be moved. And AIBU to think there needs to be common sense about displaying sweatshirts with these sorts of pictures on. If magazines with the same image have to be displayed on the top shelf, I don't see why sweatshirts where the images are much much bigger, should be allowed to be hung in at eye-level and in plain view of any passing child.

[Message from MNHQ - some of the links posted on this thread contain t-shirts with fairly graphic images.]

Apologies Andrew, I retract my orignal comment and replace with puerile, ugly, rotund middle aged men. I happen to be rather fond of middle aged men myself, and I am the proud owner of once well used, slightly rotund, balding man who is fast approaching middle age. He also wouldn't been seen dead in one of those shirts. Grin

MsInterpreted · 14/05/2015 19:22

I am so pleased your testicles are going to remain in tact. Wins all round.

TendonQueen · 14/05/2015 19:52

They look like they'd be worn by men desperately trying to pretend they're not gay. Like one of those late eighties George Michael videos where he kept draping himself with supermodels. Awful.

And does Nicki Minaj know they've used her image, I wonder? Rihanna won her case against Top Shop for just slapping a picture of her on a t shirt...

Tomfunsnumber1trolley · 14/05/2015 20:04

They are hideous. Probably outing myself but my husband went on a school trip to Germany last year; the teenage boys who were his charges chipped together and bought him a 'lovely' t-shirt with three ladies sunbathing face down in thongs on the front, the thongs making up the colours of the German Flag. He doeswear it round the house sometimes but changes it before he goes outside! Tbf that looks quite classy compared to some of these.

morethanpotatoprints · 14/05/2015 20:10

They are obviously made for young lads, even my 23 year old doesn't wear or shop here anymore.
Just walk on ffs and ignore if you don't like it.

shadypines · 14/05/2015 20:16

A few years ago I actually saw a young man who assisted in the primary school after-school club walking across the playground wearing something like this. Obviously he was working! I couldn't believe my eyes Shock

Well done YANBU it's totally out of order. It's sort of like buying a top shelf mag, opening it on offending page and then waving it around in public for all to see. Sickening really.

(Shady goes off to ponder why women are abused and portrayed as sex objects all over the world......Confused)

Mintyy · 14/05/2015 20:26

Why the fuck should anyone "ignore if you don't like it?". What a puerile, passive argument that is.

It is offensive, sexist, misogynistic CRAP!

How the holy hell is it possible for stuff like this to even be manufactured? I can't believe my eyes.

FriendofBill · 14/05/2015 20:29

Well done for complaining.
That blue shop is a pile of shit.

River island sold some similar tat and I boycotted them too.

FriendofBill · 14/05/2015 20:30

Godh, imagine women wearing a male equivalent. Shock

kali110 · 14/05/2015 20:45

I have no problem with them. Pull your child away.
What will people do if they run into people wearing these?
Young lads do wear these.
If i were still young i wouldn't care if my oh wanted one.
Why can't blokes buy tops they want just because they're in a relationship?
I'v seen girls in similar nicki manaj (cannot spell her name) tops and half naked rhianna tops.

Fatmomma99 · 14/05/2015 20:56

I don't dare click on the links because I've just read a thread warning about penguins with cold dead eyes which follow you if you click on them.

captainfarrell · 14/05/2015 21:34

Well done OP. I would've done the same. i feel the same about poster/ billboards for 18 rated films at bus stops. Not quite porn but often violent or aggressive images. I've often had to distract my chn from looking.

It all started when French Connection, who used to be a classy, chic clothes store, started using the "clever?" logo FCUK. Talk about crass. Haven't bought a thing from them since.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/05/2015 21:53

Ds(21) would never buy a top like this. But then he has a lovely girlfriend to look at. I doubt many saddo top wearers do. And I totally agree with the poster who suggested they were bought by closet homosexuals; there's something about trying too hard to adverise your heterosexuality. Just come on out lads.

I just love the review "shirt sizes ridiculously small, I am comfortably an xl size, but your xl I can't get in, Xxl are too tight and you've run out of Xxxl" Grin I agree with op entirely though by the way

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 14/05/2015 22:49

I think you might be onto something, Tinkly.

It's a way for closet homosexuals to get straight men to look in their direction and become turned on.

spillyobeans · 15/05/2015 00:24

Yanbu however if the store is a chain the employees wont have a choice, the only way you could get any where is to write to the company maybe?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/05/2015 00:55

I must be far to rural

I have never even seen one of those bloody ugly shirts. I'm quite pleased about this.

kissedbyamoonbeammyarse · 15/05/2015 01:09

I don't get to largish shopping centres often. My DS was very excited today to be at Blue Inc. I had never heard of it so we wandered in. 10 paces in we looked at each other and I said "it's all a bit rubbishy cheap really" he nodded and we left. We did look at a sweatshirt with a 'belle' image first tho, wasn't something either of us liked.

kissedbyamoonbeammyarse · 15/05/2015 01:15

Ffs. I just looked at badgers link. If I had seen them I would have had something to say in the shop. They are bloody hideous.

Icimoi · 15/05/2015 08:24

Did anyone see the shirt with "I was amazing last night" printed on it? If I saw someone wearing that I'd be tempted to say "Well done, you managed to last beyond your usual 10 seconds, did you?"

ISeeWesen · 15/05/2015 08:54

I've had a response

'Fun to wear' oh dear. Im not a prude at all and i wouldnt call very graphic prints 'fun to wear' maybe you should send some pics of products and their responce to some magazines or papers and get them some bad press?
