Tax

InMySpareTime · 14/05/2015 08:10

Teenagers are expensive. They eat a lot, and enjoy meeting their friends (who can blame them?)
You need to make a proper budget with all your income and outgoings, to get a full picture of where your money goes.

Underthesurface · 14/05/2015 08:10

Same here , I do buy a few bits of clothes and pay for slimming world . I buy good quality food but teens are a drain. I'm dreading university years now .

CycleChic · 14/05/2015 08:10

Your last 2 would be the reason. Get a modern hybrid or electric car and you won't spend so much on petrol, insurance, fuel, "road tax, or MOTs.
Sorry I can't help about the teens!

Phones?
Sky tv?
Credit cards?

I don't understand why supermarket spending has doubled since DD was born. Does one child aged 0 to 5 years really cost as much as two adults put together?

flora717 · 14/05/2015 09:53

It probably goes on all the increases, because wages have not risen so much (and are relatively less than when I started work).

blankgaze · 14/05/2015 10:47

Keep a note of everything you spend for a month, literally every penny.
this will give you a heads-up for the major things www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php then it's a case of tracking personal spends.

DeeWe · 14/05/2015 10:54

Half a pound of tuppenny rice
Half a pound of treacle
That's the way the money goes...

BikeRunSki · 14/05/2015 10:59

Write down every single penny you spend, every direct debit etc for a month. You'll be surprised.

Shnickyshnackers · 14/05/2015 11:06

Look into ynab, it's fab and you soon see where every penny goes! The forums are full of lively people too :)

peggyundercrackers · 14/05/2015 11:12

it goes on all the little bits and pieces which are insignificant. when your buying something ask yourself if you really need it - chances are you wont!

agree with others who say write down what you spend every penny on.

cozietoesie · 14/05/2015 11:13

The price of food is slithering up inexorably - analyse what you spend and you might get quite a shock.

SaucyJack · 14/05/2015 11:14

Food. The price of fresh and/or interesting food seems to be doubling each year.

SuperFlyHigh · 14/05/2015 11:14

sign up to moneysavingexpert.com if you're serious. Look for money off vouchers (vouchercloud etc) for anything and everything from days out, food, eating out, clothes etc...

and yes write down what you spend money on and what comes in.

Look into money you're owed - eg PPI claims.
