AIBU about work...?

I am a bit concerned. My line manager is on long term sick leave and we are getting a seconded manager.

While my manger has been off my colleague has been doing my supervision but I have been managed by senior manager. Colleague is older than me (and more experienced) and a dear friend. We are the same grade at work and only members of team at our grade who do not have A degree (and both prob a bit defensive about that). She has her own team who are 2 grades lower than us. I manage my own project and team of volunteers.

She has phoned me tonight after a meeting with senior manager. When the seconded manager comes she will continue to do my supervision (which I am fine with as she understands my role better than senior manager).

Colleague was going to go for promotion (secondment) but has been told she won't get interview as not "qualified" even though she has been doing job for last 3 months. I would have been perfectly happy to be managed by her.

What I am not clear about it who will be my line manager and I am now panicking as if colleague is going to also line manage me it is beginning to feel like a demotion .... If my line management is to change to my colleague who is the same grade as me and I have shared a manager with, am I right to feel a bit put out by this (not personal AT ALL although awkward) and to challenge it and if so how?! Confused

If she is more experienced than you then this sets her apart from you.

Yes but I am in a team of 10 people and would be the only one not being line managed by the new manager and being line managed alongside a team of people I am "senior" to.

You need to speak to the senior manager and ask.

It sounds like your colleague will supervise you as she knows your role (and new seconded manager won't, plus might not be in post for long if your line manager returns soon or the post goes out to advert if they don't return). Your colleague doesn't appear to have given any indication she'll be line managing you though.

I know - just always worrying, is not nice being in a job on experience rather than pieces of paper. Always feel looked down on,
