The neighbour next but one feeds the pigeons and seagulls daily, leaving out a large tray of food all day. Next door had an infestation of them in the roof and had pest controllers to evict them. Since then they have taken up residence on our pitched roof and crap all over the car and the drive. I will try and get some spikes up there to stop them but it is very high up.
If anybody has any ideas of how to get rid I would be grateful.

Get a plastic owl and put it on your roof. They'll stay away.

Google 'owl decoy' to find one. They are usually used as lures for shooting crows and magpies when hey are causing problems - they'll try and mob it. Pigeons won't go anywhere near one.

"We hired a hawk"

...now my favourite mumsnet line EVER!!!

Adopt a cat. Or a possy of pussies. Release the cat amongst the pigeons Grin

A hawk will definitely take on a seagull and will probably win.

We went to a farm a while ago, one of the visitor attraction ones for children. There was a bird of prey show and the man was doing a flying demonstration with the hawk. It was going brilliantly and the kids were loving it until the hawk decided the seagulls nearby were pissing it off. It shot off after them, took down a seagull, and then started eating it in front of forty horrified children.

Best day out ever Grin

My husband used to tell me about this huge owl decoy at Barking station in Essex. It was at the train station. It was wearing a hat. It did not scare the pigeons, in fact they made a nest in its hat!

I was fascinated by this owl decoy in a hat thing, but never saw it...

Reading Station has a resident hawk to keep the pigeons away.

I love birds of prey and opened the thread specifically to say you should see if there's anyone with a hawk could pop by.

Football grounds use them, as does Wimbledon iirc.

If anyone is around Kielder water anytime soon they have a brilliant bird of prey centre, I've been on a hunting day there, well worth a look

Our neighbours did this till THEY got rats in their loft. Then they stopped leaving out loads of bread. Dunno how you can persuade them in that direction!

Hmmm. I have a friend who flies hawks, I wonder ....
