For writing 'tory scum' on the women's war memorial.

They were probably just vandals rather than sensible people making a political protest. I mean, "tory scum" is hardly reasoned debate.

amybear2 · 10/05/2015 16:23

That link doesn't name a party. It just says anti-government protestors.Charlotte Church was one

Greenrememberedhills · 10/05/2015 16:23

Where in that article did it blame a political party? Crafty post.

caroldecker · 10/05/2015 16:23

parsnip the SWP represent a bigger danger to the UK than Isis - not on a worldwide basis

amybear2 · 10/05/2015 16:25

I repeat-where does it name a party?

Jacobsmum1972 · 10/05/2015 16:25

Agree carol look at all the violence in 2011. In a months time their is a huge protest happening and I bet it turns violent because of Groups like SWP.

NRomanoff · 10/05/2015 16:27

I would say the majority of people from far left to far right condemn this.

Unfortunately I think you will probably find the person who did this doesn't give a shit about politics or who got in. And probably has no idea what far left means. Some people just join anything to justify this shit.

Jacobsmum1972 · 10/05/2015 16:27

Amy SWP banners are in the picture of the protest pictures. Maybe not in the bbc article but in other articles.

Greenrememberedhills · 10/05/2015 16:28

Lord above, the backlash has started. Will we really have 4 more years of this?

Clearly the people who defaced that memorial are idiots. However we dont yet know exactly who it was. All sorts of people from all political parties and coalitions across the mainly left spectrum go on demonstrations. We can't start smearing the lot of them, regardless of the actions of a minority.

GeorgeYeatsAutomaticWriter · 10/05/2015 16:28

the SWP represent a bigger danger to the UK than Isis

Grin That really is risible. Because spray-painting stupid graffiti on a war memorial is comparable to suicide bombings. Right.

ghostyslovesheep · 10/05/2015 16:30

well said NR

I am a lefty and I think it's awful - I noticed a lot of 'anarchists' on the demo - these just tend to be trouble making twats rather than people wishing to engage in the democratic system

however just because some idiots behaved badly doesn't take away from the demo

Greenrememberedhills · 10/05/2015 16:30

Jacobsmum, there were picture of establishment politicians with banners at Greenham common. Can we say they cut the fence? No.

Being in a photo at a demonstration does not mean you were responsible for an act of defacement.

Your argument lacks logic.

LongDistanceLove · 10/05/2015 16:32

If it even was someone from a socialist party who defaced it. Up until last night there was pretty much a media blackout. The only things have made the news as far as I can see although I haven't looked properly is the arrests and the graffiti.

It really wouldn't surprise me that the graffiti was the result of a smear campaign to discredit the protests. It's done a Stirling job if so.

paxtecum · 10/05/2015 16:33

I think Bobajob is spot on.
Probably an undercover policeman.

sanfairyanne · 10/05/2015 16:56

the 'anarchists' are probably the undercover police btw

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 10/05/2015 17:26

I think the only danger the SWP pose is boring us all to death.

My exH was a member, they had meetings in my sitting room - they were seriously dull, humourless people.

parsnipbob · 10/05/2015 17:32

Lol at whoever said SWP are a threat to the UK. Have a Biscuit

caroldecker · 10/05/2015 18:06

SWP have 19 people arrested for violent protests, Isis nothing?

parsnipbob · 10/05/2015 18:09

Ooh, 19! That'll bring the establishment to its knees, that will.

GeorgeYeatsAutomaticWriter · 10/05/2015 18:11

An even more ridiculous post. Didn't think that was possible. Grin

paxtecum · 10/05/2015 20:02

My Mum was in the forces in WW11.
She would be quite happy to have Tory Scum graffitied onto the women's war memorial.
She always thought they were scum, though she wasn't too impressed with warmonger Blair either. She wore a Don't bomb Iraq badge with great pride.

Beautifulbabyboy · 10/05/2015 21:41

Paxtecum - I like your post. :-))

OrlandoWoolf · 10/05/2015 21:45

If you've ever been on a demonstration with lots of police present, you'll know there are always elements who are just up for a fight.

The media focus on any fighting that takes place and ignores the focus of the protests. Then incidents happen which tarnish the image.

It might have been a protestor. It might have been a "plant".

But it had its effect. One action can ruin a whole point being made and is used to discredit a whole group.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 10/05/2015 21:48

The person who did that is a complete twat. An utter arsehole.

But your thread title is ridiculous.

PurpleSwift · 10/05/2015 22:03

Errrr I'm pretty sure that was the actions of ONE person. And the riots with several others. Are all torys saints?
