To think people watch some really weird stuff

My husband has been watching this weird YouTube channel which is a guy playing mortal combat for 10 hours a day! 10 HOURS A DAY!

He has people pay a £3 subscription a month to watch him play this IMO child's game everyday!

He even has a feature where people can donate to his further game purchases, donations to his lifestyle and the option to buy him takeaways so he can continue playing!

WTF, that's crazy!

I'm thinking I might just set up a feed to my website and stream me working (I'm an artist). I wonder if people would actually pay to watch me work? And donate to my lifestyle and buy me takeaways?

Aibu to think 1. People watch any old shit 2. I should talk to my web developer about making a live stream for me. Wink

NurseRoscoe I'm surprised your kids haven't hit on the Peppa role play people yet.

The Toddler finds all sorts of weirdness as he watches Peppa and then hits any old picture which he likes the look of at the side of the screen.

I'm convinced that one day he's going to come across some X rated "Peppa Turns Tricks" set up that some sicko has put on there for fun Grin.

My dc always find weird stuff on YouTube, they found this a few months ago (obviously they are not allowed to watch it) but dsis and I were laughing our heads off.

I'm seriously going to speak to the lady who does my webpage and see if I should do a YouTube chNnel for my works! It's very intricate and relaxing.

DS2 watches videos of people playing farm simulator and videos of combine harvesters working with dramatic music.
He is only 3 though so hopefully he might grow out of it.
He also pleads with me to go to the tiny station to train spot, we get two trains per hour.

Are you sure it was on youtube? The subscription feature where you pay a monthly fee is on twitch, although some people do put the videos they record live up on youtube afterwards, so that might be why they're on that website as well.

A lot of young people watch these things- maybe even your children or your children's friends. Watching people play videogames and commentate isn't such a niche thing anymore: the most popular players earn enough from subscriptions and donations to do it full time and can have thousands or even tens of thousands of people watching at peak. If you're big you can end up sponsored by some very large companies and even get flown out to try videogames before they're released.

For a lot of people watching it's not just the videogame: for the live-watching on twitch there's a chat feature and it's a sense of community for people. They talk to each other and to the person who's playing, make donations during the day and things. It's easy to mock it but some for some people it's an outlet. They're lonely. Others just want to watch games that they can't afford, don't have the right console for or are too nervous to play (like horror games). I imagine that some of them find it more interactive than sitting and watching television, since the player and all the viewers are talking.

Some people just watch a bit here and there to see if a videogame is worth playing. New releases get massive amounts of viewers, and why not? People want to check something out before they make a purchase, and the person playing will often give feedback.

So yes, I suppose it might seem weird at first, and I don't do it myself, but I've known people that do and it's not all that strange for them. If you have any questions about how it works I can probably answer them!

Reading back my post sounds a little snarky and it isn't meant to- apologies if it comes across as rude. The post is more addressed to anyone who's bemused by this than you specifically, Lesausage.

upthe I didn't find it sarky :)
