To get really annoyed by the talent show classic line "this is my last chance"

I know, I know, it's a ridiculous thing to be annoyed about. I just can't get my head round it - ok, if someone has genuinely decided that they have done enough auditions and they want to call it a day if they're unsuccessful again, fair enough. But I hate it when there's someone young, fit and healthy enough to be displaying their talent on TV and then out comes the classic line..."I don't know what I'll do if I don't get through this round...it really is my last chance to get anywhere with this" (or something along those lines)

AIBU to cringe each time I hear it?! I imagine it's the producers making them say it to try and up the drama levels but it just frustrates the hell out of me! (And yes I know it's awful TV but I love the shows in general, just not that one line!!)

I hate "I'm doing it for my kids". As though all the rest of us who aren't pop stars are somehow failing our children.

Yanbu. I did a performing arts course for the tech side of performance. I enjoy it. But it's much more a hobby. Anyway...

I'd have a lot more respect for those who said it was their last chance if they could prove they'd done absolutely everything they possibly could. Ie performing arts courses, been in their local choir/am dram/operatics society, scoured the pages of the stage newspaper for auditions, maybe attended stage school and also tried to make contact with the relevant bods. If they've done all that and still haven't managed to squeeze into their chosen area, chances are they really aren't good enough.

There is a line of thinking that some people may genuinely not be able to access this without jumping straight in front of one of the big wigs. But I'm sure the majority are too lazy and just want to be famous.

Still. It makes for some entertaining viewing when you get the deluded ones who really think they are the next best thing.
