What do you make of this?

While I'm not sure his book is sexist, I think reviewer has a right to her opinion.

Never heard of him but just read review following this thread. She gave an honest review saying book not for her due to various reasons. He threaten libel! Wow. He did apologies later so must have been bad day. Why get into a verbal discussion online.

He doesn't threaten libel for the bad review, but for the bit she redacted where she accused him of buying reviews.
That's a pretty serious accusation - a writer can be chucked off Amazon for it and have their career basically wrecked - so I don't blame him at all for insisting she remove that bit.

Well, he accused her of getting people to click on likes and posting bad reviews. It's unclear which came first.

What is clear though, is that not content with a really bitter response on Amazon that makes him come across as an arse (doesn't he watch The hotel inspector?! Doesn't he know you never do that!!?) he took it to twitter, where he used his platform (10000 + followers) to make fun of someone with no platform. That's really poor form.

I was glad to read his apology and believe it was sincere. It was much needed.

I specifically said I don't think you shouldn't review books you haven't finished.
Oh, I think you can: if you find a book totally unreadable, what else are you supposed to do? Not review it and let some other poor sap buy it without warning? Struggle on wasting hours of your life?

Obviously, you should admit that you haven't finished it, so that anyone going through the reviews can get a feel for what's going on. Lots of one-star-couldn't-finish-it reviews vs lots of five-star-it-was-fab reviews will at least let people know that a book divides opinions rather sharply.

Apologies for thread derailment.

MehsMum completely agree with you ^

I really enjoyed the review of the review of the floss though. That did make me laugh.

Can I just add, he probably only followed me on Twitter because I used to write about family issues etc at a local paper and he probably thought I might do a feature on him. He obviously never got the memo about my redundancy. Grin

MehsMum, I said don't think you shouldn't! I agree with you!

Puppymonkey, I think he does what a lot of writers do on Twitter which is to follow lots of people in the hope they'll follow back.

londonrach, the flows review is something Hatch's reviewer wrote about another Amazon product. It's not very interesting but you can find it by looking at the reviewer's history if you really want to. It's maybe a bit invasive, though, so I don't really want to post a link to it.
