YANBU - is infuriating!

PHANTOMnamechanger · 08/05/2015 15:52

I know, other than those dealing with an emergency such as sudden hospitalisation of self/loved one, I have no sympathy at all for those who can't be bothered to vote. It should be compulsory to turn up - people could still spoil their ballot paper as a protest, if they were so inclined, but at least having to go might actually wake them up and make them THINK about how serious this issue is. Grrr!

GlitzAndGigglesx · 08/05/2015 15:56

Yanbu! A colleague was kicking off but refused to vote because he said it wouldn't make a difference Angry

shewept · 08/05/2015 16:00

YANBU a women on the radio said she didn't vote, but couldn't believe that labour didn't get in.

shewept · 08/05/2015 16:02

Sorry posted too soon.

She also said she thought everyone else would have done and she was shocked how little people cared about the poor in society.I shouted at the car radio...I must have looked bizarre if anyone saw me.

How can you complain labour didn't get in when you didn't vote? Baffles and gives me rage.

MissDemelzaCarne · 08/05/2015 16:03

YANBU, they can fuck right off.

shewept · 08/05/2015 16:04

I also spoke to a man today who has 2 children and had no idea how the child benefit cap worked....he also didn't vote but now thinks the cuts are very unfair so is angry Conservatives got back in.

3littlefrogs · 08/05/2015 16:05

If you couldn't be bothered to vote you forfeit your right to criticise or have an opinion. Presumably you gave up your democratic rights voluntarily.

However - there will be some people who couldn't vote through no fault of their own.

I understand that a number of sick, elderly and disabled people did not receive the postal votes they applied for and were therefore disenfranchised against their will.

Hillingdon · 08/05/2015 16:07

There are some on Mumsnet that are saying that Labour didnt win because their voters didnt vote.....

Sounds like clutching at straws. That along with a thread saying the David Miliband would have walked it... Well, they are out and there wont be another chance for the next 5 years.

I feared that Labour would get in and we would become another France..

They are also having an independent review of the previous polls which clearly were a complete waste of time... Only reason I can think of as to why they got it so wrong is that people didnt actually choose until they were in the ballot box.

LotusLight · 08/05/2015 16:19

I think most people realised you cannot spend money you don't have and the Tories were the best option.

fedupbutfine · 08/05/2015 16:44

Most? only 66% (or just over) of the eligible electorate voted - of those who did vote, only 36 (nearly 37)% actually voted Conservative.

Leaving aside those who didn't bother to vote, how is 36/7% 'most'? It is hardly a landslide. They may have a majority in Parliament but you can't claim 'most' people actually want the Conservative Government we got today.

Wrong thread Lotus? Confused
The OP was about people who didn't vote for anyone.

Laquitar · 08/05/2015 16:47

YANBU .
Also those who voted Tories will be complaining in few weeks.

coffeecakeandgin · 08/05/2015 16:55

I think it's pathetic those that don't vote. Do not ever complain about anything for the next 5 years then - nothing. Schools, potholes in roads, transport, NHS, anything. You have no right.

One of my DC's was voting in a different part of the country. She knows how important her vote was. It was a party change from 2010 with a tiny majority.

NRomanoff · 08/05/2015 16:59

Also those who voted Tories will be complaining in few weeks.

Nope!

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 08/05/2015 17:02

People who don't vote simply baffle me.

YANBU.

VelvetRose · 08/05/2015 17:19

66% turn out is absolutely pathetic. It's not the result I hoped for but the Labour Party folk moaning about the polls are being ridiculous I think.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 08/05/2015 17:24

Yanbu. I am totally pissed off! Decide not to vote then shut the Fuck up when the government you dislike gets into power when you had the chance to vote them out. Fucking arseholes!

NRomanoff · 08/05/2015 17:25

Does anyone know the turn out for the 2010 GE?

ChillieJeanie · 08/05/2015 17:31

2010 turnout was 65.1%.

NRomanoff · 08/05/2015 17:38

Thank you Chillie, so not that different to this year.

It just seems so low, compared to how many people moan about politics.

Roobix04 · 08/05/2015 17:39

I mean even if you wanted the tories to win you should still be annoyed and baffled at those who didn't vote. My little sister turns 18 next month and she's livid that she couldn't vote. Meanwhile her friends couldn't be bothered because apparently none of the policies are for them.

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 08/05/2015 17:49

YANBU. One of the reasons I voted (in a Conservative safe seat where it really didn't matter what I voted, the Tories still would have - and did - get it) was so that I have the right to complain about anything and everything for the next five years. Grin Only a 62% turn out in my constituency Sad
