Yanbu

Patapouf · 08/05/2015 15:39

I don't see that being a priority somehow.
Sad

TattyDevine · 08/05/2015 15:40

I'd give them a chance, its only been a few hours...

CMOTGilbertBlythe · 08/05/2015 15:41

Oh quite soon I expect, be a nice excuse to remove benefits from parents of children under 5, I'd have thought.

BubGal13 · 08/05/2015 15:42

he said would come in 2017

Miltonmaid · 08/05/2015 15:42

Probably around the same time that they abolish statutory maternity pay, limit child benefit to two children and end tax credits.

littlejohnnydory · 08/05/2015 15:50

Exactly the same time as they scrap smp and tax credits?

Crabstick · 08/05/2015 15:51

We are lucky to get SMP many EU countries don't.

stubbornstains · 08/05/2015 15:53

So that makes it all right to abolish it then?

PickleSarnie · 08/05/2015 15:53

So that makes it alright to abolish it then crab?

PickleSarnie · 08/05/2015 15:54

Woaaaah. Spooky cross post stubborn I must type faster!

senrensareta · 08/05/2015 15:56

For heaven's sake, give the dust a chance to settle before you start demanding the things that benefit you.

Talk about the politics of greed...

LittleOldWineDrinker · 08/05/2015 16:02

The Tories could have promised to send Mary Fucking Poppins herself to come round my house to nanny my children and I still wouldn't have voted for them.

fiveacres · 08/05/2015 16:02

I hope that they do introduce it, and 2017 sounds sensible. I hope it will not replace SMP; I think most of us, regardless of policies, would agree that under-1's and certainly under 6month old infants are better in the care of a parent.

Affordable childcare is hugely detrimental to people, in particular women, working, and as such this can only be a good thing. I very much doubt SMP will vanish but I would imagine it will be expected for single parents of children over the age of 3 to seek employment.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 08/05/2015 16:02

The poor man's been up all night with the elections and tied up with her maj and all that today - give him a chance Grin

Miltonmaid · 08/05/2015 16:08

Crab - do you have evidence for that? whats your definition of many? I know you get it in Scandinavia, Germany and France - pretty big countries.

chantico · 08/05/2015 16:09

"The poor man's been ... tied up with her maj and all that today - give him a chance"

Shock
Babyroobs · 08/05/2015 16:17

When my two children were born in new Zealand I got no maternity pay, not a penny until I went back to work six months later, not sure if it has changed now. there was also no child benefit, no help with childcare costs, no tax credits etc. We couldn't believe the help we got when we came back to the UK in 2001 !

26Point2Miles · 08/05/2015 16:19

I thought I'd heard 2017 too. Maybe we will know more when parliament are back in the autumn

sanfairyanne · 08/05/2015 16:22

when hell freezes over?

morage · 08/05/2015 16:23

They will announce it. And most parents won't actually be able to get it. They pay too little, so few places will offer it.

Babyroobs · 08/05/2015 16:23

Thirty hours free childcare won't be very useful for couples who run themselves ragged trying to work shifts around each other so that they don't have to put their kids in childcare. Wonder if we'll see a shift in mums who work nights / weekends evenings etc to reduce childcare costs trying to move to 9-5 jobs instead?

Figster · 08/05/2015 16:25

Where have they suggested they going to scrap SMP??

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 16:25

I've tweeted my MP to ask about it. he prides himself on his responsiveness to all tweets and letters. I'm sure he'll respond soon.

LOL.

Also I'm guessing I'm not eligible as a hrt. But they didn't mention that in hte manifesto

bigkidsdidit · 08/05/2015 16:26

I think they'll bring it in soon and use it as an excuse to make single parents look for work when their children are 3, instead of 5
