To consider divorce because my DH voted Tory?

I always wondered if he was in the closet. In the past couple of elections he's voted Lib Dem but this time he marked the X in the Tory box. How can I look at him the same way? I thought he was a decent human being.

I'm not sure I want to share the same roof, never mind the same bed as him anymore. The kids might be a bit upset but they'd get over it - right?

Mine's a Tory born and bred. We are in Scotland. Proud to say he voted for Labour yesterday after we did one of the online tests. Labour obviously did terribly it's a major thing to see him break with the hard line Tory tribalism of his family and vote for the party that best represented his views, policy - wise. His right wing voting habits do cause a lot of tension in this house! Mainly because it's irrational in relation to his actual views!

Aeroflotgirl · 08/05/2015 14:31

I hope this is a lighthearted thread. It's up to him what he votes, unless it's a racist and bigoted party.

Esmum07 · 08/05/2015 14:31

You should definitely leave him. Do him a favour. He's suffered enough poor man Wink

derxa · 08/05/2015 14:32

DH did not vote Tory but I did for the first time ever. I'm packing his bags right now.

LadyGlen · 08/05/2015 14:36

Hard to take, I know but it can still be a good marriage, OP. My granda was a committed Labour and my grandma always voted Tory Sad.

They were married for over 40 years. The only arguments they ever had were about politics (so roughly every 5 years) and decorating (every 2 or 3 years).

The rest of the time they were blissfully happy.

ScarySpiceMum · 08/05/2015 14:38

YABU - and melodramatic.

No offense to everyone but not a lot of people have advanced political educations. I highly doubt your DH even read their manifesto and/ or conducted extensive research into the party, where their money goes and the real values of people who belong to it.

People vote based on TV debates, posters, empty promises and propaganda.

I've seen black/immigrant/ethnic minority people vote for UKIP because they genuinely believe they aren't a racist party and don't want any more immigration themselves.

In order to make a truly informed choice, a sound knowledge in Politics, legislation, law and government is vital. None of us are really informed if we are honest. With that being said....don't take who your friends/partners vote for too seriously. If you were to ask him 10 questions about Conservative policy would he even be able to answer? This isn't even a dig or me being condescending I'm just resassuring you that he isn't really a tory....to be quite frank there is no such thing. People within the same party have completely different ideas, priorities, ideologies and morals. Don't let labels ruffle your feathers x

ScarySpiceMum · 08/05/2015 14:40

littlejessie This is exactly what I mean!! Who people vote for usually says very little about what they actually believe, think or want for their country.

msrisotto · 08/05/2015 14:42

Yeah, 'cos MN is really light hearted about the Tories at the moment!

swingsofglory · 08/05/2015 14:47

I don't know - maybe I've been looking at this the wrong way. What does a Tory wife actually do?

Perhaps I should leave my job, start wearing headscarves and rename the children after members of the royal family. Oh, it could be a whole new start...

We won't actually be able to afford that, but then that's what food banks are for - living the Tory dream. Wink

It won't be long until he's caught on camera wearing leather underpants and fishnet stockings with an orange in his mouth like his Tory heroes. If I were you I'd sit tight for now, wait until the inevitable sex scandal then make a living from pulling a Daily Mail sad face in women's magazines, appearances with Denise on This Morning and a stint in the Big Brother House.

pinkpanda101 · 08/05/2015 17:25

DH (Tory) and I (Green today, but
a lifelong socialist) joke that we preside over the perfect fair coalition Smile Occasional rows but otherwise a fair division of work, fun and finance between us. Importantly, we don't let our two small rowdy backbenchers come between us!!

missymayhemsmum · 08/05/2015 17:38

Sorry, OP. The tories just got in and all us unmarried mothers are about to be punished massively. LTB just stopped being an option.

liquidstatebacktowork · 08/05/2015 17:50

Mine voted lib dem because he forgot who he usually voted for Hmm

VanitasVanitatum · 08/05/2015 18:21

Tory wife - well Sam Cameron was the creative director of Smytheson and now works as a consultant.

smileyfacestar · 08/05/2015 18:47

I wouldn't be happy if my dh voted Labour!

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 08/05/2015 18:50

Seriously op today has been full of hysteria over this election I did wonder if this was light hearted or not.

ThatBloodyWoman · 08/05/2015 20:17

Can we stop all this patronising 'hysteria' stuff?
Its a deliberate attempt to belittle on a lighthearted thread.
