To want to get pet rabbits even though DH doesn't

Years ago we had two rabbits. They weren't a cuddly pair, and we had huge vets bills from one of the rabbits bad teeth. When the 2nd one passed away DH said no more rabbits, as they are too expensive and, in his opinion, shit pets.

We still have housing. They were in the shed,(they had the whole shed instead of a hutch,)with a cat flap leading out to a run attached. We still have the run, and the shed contents could be emptied into the garage. So I wouldn't be forking out loads of my own money to set them up. I would like to adopt a neutered, vaccinated pair from a local rescue.

Aibu to get them?

I'm with your DH. They are shit pets. Guinea pigs are slightly more amusing. But hutch animals in general are just dull imo. Cats, dogs, chickens even! Much better.

YABU they ARE shit pets. Get a cat.

I've had rabbits. They are very expensive to give the level of care they need. Also, aren't you supposed to ideally not reuse housing for them?

someonestolemynick · 08/05/2015 13:04

Ywbu. Getting pets is always a joined decision. It's awfully disrespectul to one's partner to go behind their back on something like this. How would you feel in his position?

Plus it's unfair on the pet, if one member of their household isn't happy with them being their resenting time and money being spent in the pet.

Either convince your husband that you will be able to make having rabita cost effective or agree on a different pet.

I would split up with my lartner , if they disregarded my wishes on such an important natter. And I'm saying that as a committed mad cat lady.

They're not shit pets. Like all animals they are individuals. I once had a gorgeous rabbit who was as friendly as a dog. He used to like to sit on my shoulder and drink out of cups of tea!

I think too many are kept in lonely cramped conditions though.

I've not heard that before flora
a local rescue makes a lot of funds by selling second hand runs and hutches.

YABU, if he doesn't want them, you don't get them. People shouldn't have to share their homes with animals they don't want. It's unfair on them and on the animals.

YABU

I'd love a rat but DH said no...he finds them awful...so I'm not getting one...even though I LOVE them and want to hold it's tiny, ratty hands. :(

Exactly this ^

Don't. Just don't.

Get one of those fake purring cats instead. It will smell better and you can stroke it to your heart's content and then leave it on the windowsill as you go away for a fortnight's holiday.
