Yes, another party political thread. No apologies here. I'm 53 and I've never seen anything like this in my life.

What will Natalie Bennett do?

Baaaa Are you a five year old high on a haribo induced sugar rush or just a copper bottomed moron?

No.

Just a typical Tory, by the sound of it...

ErrolTheDragon · 08/05/2015 13:51

He's just promised there will be an in/out referendum. Hmmmm.

Wasn't that a manifesto commitment if they got an overall majority? Surely no-one's surprised by that. Also to push forward with greater devolution for Scotland/Wales (and I assume NI).

Wonder how UKIP will fare without Farage leading it - do you think they can find another leader who won't be found to be too sexist/racist/fiddling or whatever even for ukip, like so many of the ex-candidates/councillors etc. On the radio it said he hadn't ruled out standing again so I suspect that he'll be back before too long.

Labour elected the wrong guy. It wasn't 'backstabbing' but they chose a Labour party leader, not a potential Prime Minister. You'd have thought they'd have learned from Foot and Kinnock. I'm hopeful that Ed Balls losing his seat will leave the way clear for Yvette Cooper to have a shot at the leadership.

Lottapianos · 08/05/2015 14:12

There are some small consolations. Galloway is out, Farage is out, Vince Cable is out, apparently Esther McVey lost her seat and Caroline Lucas is back in. All good stuff.

And Cameron may be beaming now but dear god is he is in for a world of pain for the next five long years. His life will be utter hell day in and day out. I don't envy him one bit. Serves him right though.

squoosh · 08/05/2015 14:18

His life will be utter hell day in and day out.

We can but hope.

BreacaBoudica · 08/05/2015 14:25

No reason for Natalie B to go - the Green membership has shot up under her leadership! And I agree with her about the monarchy :)

Also agree with all points re Ed and David - it was a VOTE!

Icimoi · 08/05/2015 14:26

Farage seems to be trying to find a loophole. He resigned because he said he would, but says he'll decide over the summer whether he wants to stand again. So presumably the acolytes have expressly agreed with him that they won't hurry to hold the leadership election.

Let's hope his opponents insist on a leadership contest being run immediately.

squoosh · 08/05/2015 14:28

That twat is too addicted to the limelight to disappear.

Tanith · 08/05/2015 14:29

"His life will be utter hell for the next 5 years"

As I've been reminded on another thread, he did promise us all that he wouldn't stand a third time... Smile

hedgehogsdontbite · 08/05/2015 14:37

Farage hasn't gone. Listen to his speech. He's resigned, leaving his mate in charge, until he's reappointed when he gets back off his holidays.

AuntieStella · 11/05/2015 15:50

Just heard on the news that the National Executive Committee of UKIP has unanimously rejected Farage's resignation.

Now, they can't force him to be leader if he really wants to go. And he did say that he didn't want to be someone who went back on his word (to really resign IYSWIM after first muddle about whether he was leaving or just having a break).

So what will he say next?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/05/2015 15:52

Haven't we already had this palaver with Farage a few years ago? They need to make their minds up.

It will be like James Brown pretending to leave stage.

AuntieStella · 11/05/2015 18:17

I've just caught up with the news again, and he's staying on.

I can easily believe that the party wanted him to stay, and they don't seem to be in crisis, like the other two parties whose leaders quit (and who nobody wanted to stay).

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/05/2015 18:20

It's by far the most sensible thing for UKIP to do.

I'm not quite sure how easy it is to be Leader of a party if you don't have a seat in Parliament.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/05/2015 18:26

The Greens manage it! Meanwhile I see it's like something out of a Greek tragedy over in the Labour party. What a fun Christmas lunch the Miliband family's going to have this year!

Farage staying on: pathetic!

I wondered why she travelled to London. She won't be sitting in parliament.

You need to specify which Parliament you refer to. Nicola Sturgeon is an MSP and First Minister of Scotland i.e. a comparable position to David Cameron. No doubt the Scots think that's good enough for her to represent them.

I wouldn't think not having a seat at Westminster need trouble Farage, with only the one MP to keep in order. I suspect that the SNP might need to appoint some sort of Deputy at Westminster to be something of a figurehead. We shall see.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/05/2015 22:34

As the SNP have presumably written it into their constitution that you have to have a fish name to take power, no problem at all. Sturgeon in Edinburgh, Salmond in London. Grin

I once worked with a Herring who was Scottish. Should she have gone into politics?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/05/2015 07:08

Sounds like just the plaice for her, LaVolcan! She might have been a dab hand at it. On the other hand, maybe she'd have floundered about. W-eel never know. Grin
