To Wish People Would Give it a Rest with the Political Threads?

Every single one seems like Groundhog Day!

If posters really keep wishing to drag the same points back up again, can't they take it to the politics page?

OP posts:

Not that I've started one but possibly people want to discuss a particular aspect of the election and don't want it to get lost amongst the hundreds of posts on a general thread. Perfectly reasonable imo. And there's the hide button etc.

I'm riveted and so is my 7 year old son who had to be dragged away from the results to go to school. It's really gripped him and I'm pleased Grin Most grateful to the official at my local polling booth who took the time to explain things and show him all the forms, he was so excited Grin

I'm waiting for the Thanet result (go Al Murray!)

Women died to have the right to vote or have you forgotten that OP?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 08/05/2015 09:53

No one died for the right to start 52 identical threads though did they?

FfS, no one is saying it isn't important.
It's just ridiculous to have so many threads repeating the same stuff.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/05/2015 10:03

I almost look at Mumsnet via Active conversations or Threads I'm On, not specific topics. There are often times when there are lots of very similar threads. It's just how it is.

Bursarymum · 08/05/2015 10:08

YABU it's only once every 5 years

I agree that the AIBU rants are pointless, it's just lashing out. It was lashing out before the election and still is; it's completely impotent.

Before the election there was mud-slinging at POSTERS based on what their politics were. If you vote Conservative you're this and if you vote Labour you're that, with each italicised word an insult. There was time enough - and interest enough - to influence posters or at least give them a low down if others felt they wanted to. They didn't; far more important to namecall. It's got nothing to do with politics or policies, just an opportunity to lash out.

For that reason I'd say that starting threads to pick through the embers on AIBU is pointless and OP isn't being unreasonable.

Perfectlypurple · 08/05/2015 10:16

It would help if they were all in the politic topic though, this morning I counted 22 threads in active about the election. Not one of them in the politics section. And it is the repetition and the figuring out a way to word it so it can go in aibu.

If it goes in the politics section then it won't be taking over the board.

GibberingFlapdoodle · 08/05/2015 10:20

Guilty. I started one in the chat for the traffic. A lot of people don't look at the politics boards.

Sorry.

"Lots of people are shocked / depressed / distressed by the results."

And lots of people think that the Tories winning and Ed Balls losing his seat are a double celebration.

MythicalKings · 08/05/2015 11:02

YABU. Politics matter moe than a lot of stuff on mumsnet. Hide the threads if you don't like them.

AWholeLottaNosy · 08/05/2015 11:05

Personally I'm loving reading people's opinions and feelings about what's happened. Makes me feel less alone.

squoosh · 08/05/2015 11:08

YABVU.

It's the day after the general election. Quite a big deal you know. Hmm

What do you expect people to be talking about wedding invites and parking wars?

ThisTimeIAmMagic · 08/05/2015 11:21

Indeed silveroldie and my point was that regardless of your views on the results it's normal for people to want to chat about it especially if you are at home with kids or work from home and you just need to talk to another adult

Viviennemary · 08/05/2015 11:27

I feel the same about Christmas threads. But I'm quite interested in politics so don't mind them. But if they are still going in a months time or eight months before the next general election then I think folk have cause for complaint. As it is I think it's fair enough there should be all those threads.

Northernlurker · 08/05/2015 11:31

Oh grow up Op. What's happened in our country today will affect the lives of every single one of us. Deal with a bit of discussion as a result.
