excuse the spelling in the title.

But what would happen if there is s hung Parliament and no coalition.

I think there would be a reelection, but then if the same thing happens who would be the prime minister.

If no-one can form a government, then yes there has to be another election.

The current Government remains in place until there is a new one. However many elections it takes to produce a Commons from which a new government can be formed.

David Cameron as sitting prime minister will be able to put forward a queens speech of proposed legislation. There will be a vote on the speech. If it's voted down, there is another election. If it is not voted down, he will have to cobble together support from other parties on every vote so unlikely to be able to do anything major.

FGS. Sorry about the multiple posts - it said the connection was lost.

So we will just have election after elections.

I don't think it would be elections after elections, I think after a while people would probably pick conservative or labour and the smaller parties would lose out.

Topseyt · 07/05/2015 21:32

Would they have to revisit the subject of electoral reform if some description, however reluctantly?

The whole thing is just too close to call at the moment anyway. It would be a foolish person who tried to predict or bet on the outcome at this moment in time.

UnoPan · 07/05/2015 21:35

I suspect the Queen right now would be wishing for a written constitution!!

In all probability we won't know who will have a chance of forming a govt til about Sunday. Tories will cling on as long as possible whilst Ed M gets some time with Clegg and Sturgeon on speed dial.

TalkinPeace · 07/05/2015 21:43

It would be like Belgium : life would go on while the parties haggled out a deal.
No more elections.
Belgium lasted well over a year with no government.

JoanHickson · 07/05/2015 21:48

Maybe a minority government that will collapse and a new election next year?

ragged · 07/05/2015 21:52

something here how a minority govt works.

I am very annoyed with Milliband (& LibDems) for ruling out a coalition with SNP. Labour & LibDems are forcing the question of Scottish independence back on the table. Argh.

NoYouFuckingHavent · 07/05/2015 21:53

Citrine is spot on

NoYouFuckingHavent · 07/05/2015 21:54

Citrine is spot on again

TalkinPeace · 07/05/2015 21:54

Thing is that Nicola Sturgeon may be the leader of the SNP in Scotland, but she cannot be the leader of the SNP in Westminster.
How many seats they get - and whether King Alec is one of them - is still VERY up in the air

NoYouFuckingHavent · 07/05/2015 21:54

Citrine is spot on again, again
