Asking friends for free things on face book

AIBU to get annoyed by the same people asking repeatedly for things on face book? For example...

Does anyone have a sofa they don't want that I can have for free?

Does anyone know of a flat to rent in xxxx must be cheep?

If anyone has a trampoline going spare, can I have it?

Annnndddddd my personal fave:

Can anyone give me a lift to hospital (5 min walk), my baby has a temperature?

It may sound a little uncharitable of me. I would be the first to put things on face book if I didn't want them and thought someone else could use them. But, I don't understand why some people rely on face book instead of just looking on free cyckle/eBay/ getting a taxi. They are also defo not particularly hard up, just too mean to offer £ for anything.

I have one friend who asks for something at least every week. AIBU to find this annoying and think that if you decide you don't want something, most people don't hold onto it till a friend asks if anyone has one.

Yanbu, but I must say, I have never seen a FB friend asking for something like that. I'd be shocked!

DustWitch · 07/05/2015 20:45

Yanbu, that does sound annoying and very brazen if it's every week!

I guess if you don't ask, you don't get. I once put out a call for cardboard boxes (we were moving) and was overwhelmed by the response and in turn would help friends out where I can but I would get fed up of someone was repeatedly asking for free stuff!

I get annoyed by people on groups continually asking for 'donations' to their go fund me page or something. Not for a proper charitable effort, either, most often it's because they can't afford the vet for their dog/cat/stick insect that they chose to get.

I donated once, a small amount to a good friend, or so I thought, who had moved overseas. She made a big thing about not having any money, and being desperately hard up, then three months later she was posting pictures of the rather nice house she just bought :/

CupidStuntSurvivor · 07/05/2015 20:48

YANBU. Not quite the same but similar, I hate seeing people posting statuses asking what time a particular bus arrives and other things that they need only an internet connection to find out...which they clearly have!

FernGullysWoollyPully · 07/05/2015 20:49

Yanbu. I don't have fb but recently I've been at the receiving end of these requests in the form of my friend whose sister (that I don't really know) is getting married and has been constantly on the want for anything free that she could possibly get her hands on. Very frustrating.

CupidStuntSurvivor · 07/05/2015 20:50

Ooh, I'm with you on that one too Luna!

Two recent ones on my feed...

A funding page for a dad's legal fees trying to get custody of his son (gives no info about the mum he's taking to court).

And someone trying to raise £1000 to buy a tiny plot of land on which to park their caravan because they have nowhere to put it.

fixedit · 07/05/2015 20:51

I have a Facebook friend who is always asking for someone to babysit DS as she wants to go out.

Chippednailvarnish · 07/05/2015 20:52

YANBU. The one I saw today was a request that someone went and collected an item FOR them! They'd never even met!

TiggerLillies · 07/05/2015 20:53

I found it annoying but then realised the worst culprits were also the most generous in offering stuff for free, so not so annoying now :)

TruJay · 07/05/2015 21:02

cupid I have that on my newsfeed all the time.

Does anyone have the number for local takeaway?

What time is asda open til tonight?
You're clearly online so just google it, I don't get it.

I have one friend who knows DH's family and they asked my MIL via FB for a giant box of Lego they have at their house for free. It had been discussed with them how our dc had recently got to the age for Lego and we're loving playing with the Lego when visiting their grandparents. That peed me off! Who would really ask for something that someone's grandchildren used regularly and were enjoying?!

Stillyummy · 07/05/2015 21:09

Wow trujay the Lego wins!

It is nice to know IANBU, now I just need the balls to block them!

I have one like this. The best one was 'my goat has died, I need someone to come over and dig the grave'. WTF?

Aermingers · 07/05/2015 23:54

I don't think asking for a lift is necessarily unreasonable if it's cold out or dark and you have a baby.
