To think that this is gross?

I happily buy preloved dresses and tops from EBay. Once I bought a lovely blouse which smelled awful not bo, just nasty. A quick whizz in the machine and all was well. I bought a nice Phase Eight dress, which arrived today. The fabric felt a bit loose, if you see what I mean, certainly hadn't been ironed. I know things get creased in the packaging but if I sell anything I always make sure it is pressed. Further investigation showed that this bloody thing hadn't even been washed! It stinks of deodorant under the arms. Better than sweat, obviously but even so, is this not gross?
I have just sent a message to the seller, who had sent a couple of really nice emails, to say I was a bit shocked that it had not been washed. Aibu?

yes

addicted2cake · 05/05/2015 19:10

No you are not BU i would expect any item of clothing to be washed prior to selling on eBay.
Please update with sellers reply!

fieldfare · 05/05/2015 19:17

Yanbu about it being washed. I wouldn't expect something to be ironed though.

Although, wouldn't you wash it first anyway? I don't like the smell of someone else's washing powder and softener so always wash something bought from eBay or a second hand shop.

lunalelle · 05/05/2015 19:18

It is gross - though I would probably just wash it and not buy anything from them in future.

glittertits · 05/05/2015 19:19

Bit gross, but then again I find people who wear second hand clothes without washing them first gross too.

The onus is on both to wash imo. Provided you wash too by routine, I couldn't get too worked up about it.

TopEndChops · 05/05/2015 20:22

Gross, yes. I once bought a leotard from Ebay for my young daughter, it arrived complete with skidmarks. I couldn't bring myself to say anything, preferred to believe it must have been an oversight to have sent it out unwashed.

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 05/05/2015 20:26

Sweet lord skid marks!

Would be straight in the bin.

And yeuk to not washing second hand clothes.
Couldn't be added myself as clothes are cheap enough in the right shops anyway.

WishIwasanastronaut · 05/05/2015 20:43

Yes. It is gross. But I have just read a thread about eating a placenta. So, in the grand scheme of things, it's nothing that a glass of wine and a negative review of the buyer won't cure.

WishIwasanastronaut · 05/05/2015 20:43

Seller, not buyer!!!

blankgaze · 05/05/2015 21:31

Isn't it an ebay T&C that s/h clothing must be sold either washed or drycleaned?

Flossyfloof · 05/05/2015 21:34

Tbh yes I wash anyway. But I have always thought that washing was for my own peace of mind, to freshen and make sure that things are as I like them, not really to make sure they were basically clean! I had always assumed though that sellers wash things - how could you just strip off and pop it in the post??
Anyway, have had a message back to say that the seller was selling for a friend and that she is shocked as well and has said that she will refund a few quid.

Well, I couldn't bin it as she really loved it. Instead I washed it about a dozen times and contented myself with the fact that she'd always have underwear on with it.

cozietoesie · 05/05/2015 22:03

This may be what you are thinking about, blank?

Bodyinpyjamas10 · 05/05/2015 22:06

Wish that's funny. Grin

Aridane · 06/05/2015 06:02

YANBU - whenI used to sell clothes , I would always make apoint of saying they were freshly laundered - and in the personal note I would add when posting say that I hoped they hadn't got too creased during transit

19lottie82 · 06/05/2015 09:27

I bought some jeans from ebay once that arrived with period stains inside the crotch !

flowerygirl · 06/05/2015 09:32

I buy and sell a lot of clothes on ebay. I've received plenty that clearly haven't been washed. Doesn't really bother me as I'll wash it anyway and they are second hand clothes at a fraction of the price brand new. People have ridiculously high expectations. I've sold things for 99p and buyers have messaged me for a partial refund on postage Hmm

I sold a vintage outfit on ebay and I got feedback saying 'nice but a bit bobbly' It was flippin' tweed! It's supposed to be like that! Idiots!
