AIBU to think that this is a new low for the Daily Mail

Even by their standards, surely this 'journalism ' is a new low ?

Of course this photographer is providing a service to heartbroken pet owners, but is it really necessary to show photos of the dying pets ?

I find this sickening ...

I didn't read the article but I thought the photos were lovely actually Smile

hackmum · 05/05/2015 16:46

I don't think it's a new low (for that, see Richard Littlejohn's article this morning).

I think it's rather lovely.

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2015 16:46

I think the photos are absolutely beautiful Thanks

But seeing as you don't, why on earth would you want to advertise this and generate a lot more traffic on their website? Confused

squoosh · 05/05/2015 16:47

I find it quite touching really. I've held a much loved pet as he passed away, it's a special moment.

drbonnieblossman · 05/05/2015 16:48

Not a new low, no. They reached their new low when showing dead humans.

squoosh · 05/05/2015 16:49

The woman smooshing up against the Great Dane is a bit cringe though.

albertcamus · 05/05/2015 16:49

Yes, dr, I do agree on that actually

Sorry albert but, having just looked at the link, I fail to see how this is 'sickening'?

I thought the photos were done in a lovely and sympathetic way, if they didn't have the article attached how would you even know the animals were unwell?

LynetteScavo · 05/05/2015 16:50

I don't find it sickening.

Sad, yes.

But also beautiful. A reminder that you were with your pet until their last moment.

ashtrayheart · 05/05/2015 16:51

I think they are tastefully done and probably a comfort to the owners. It's not like the animals are pictured in their death throes or anything! Hmm

tabulahrasa · 05/05/2015 16:56

I'm pretty sure they're not actually being euthanised as the pictures were taken...

MintJulip · 05/05/2015 16:57

I find it odd but not as odd as this

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3068429/Labour-sexism-row-men-women-segregated-party-rally-critics-accuse-selling-values-votes.html

The face of modern Labour and Modern Britain? ^

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/05/2015 16:59

Whilst I think it's a bit strange, I think the mail has probably published dozens of 'lower' articles. YABU.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 05/05/2015 17:00

How about, instead of gobbling up all the daily mail crap and then coming on here to whinge about it and share it - don't sodding well read it in the first place!!

Hmm
Gileswithachainsaw · 05/05/2015 17:00

I think the photos are lovely. I wish I'd had one last picture with my cat before she was PTS.

so many animals are mis treated or abused. what's wrong with seeing owners so clearly loving their pets. makes a nice change tbh

mindalina · 05/05/2015 17:00

i have, at his request, several photographs of dp holding his beloved dog after the vet had left having euthanised the dog. if you don't look closely at dp's face they are just pictures of a bloke holding a dog. nothing to be sickened by. it's really tough losing a much loved pet and if having photos helps people what harm is it doing to you?

Neme · 05/05/2015 17:00

It wouldn't be for me but if it brings some people comfort then there's a market for it.

The DM will cover anything, they have no filter on what might hurt, upset or distress readers.

kinkyfuckery · 05/05/2015 17:02

Why is it sickening? I'm guessing the photos were shown with permission.

I have a photo of me with my old lady cat the night before I took her to be euthanised. Is that sick?

albertcamus · 05/05/2015 17:09

My point is NOT that the photos are sickening, as an animal-lover & pet owner I totally emphasise with the grieving owners, and have lots of photos of my past pets on display.

I just don't want to see dying animals as I glance through the website in search of news.

I agree Worra, I regret increasing the traffic to this article :(

One thing I've noticed on the website is they seem to have a thing about publishing photos of ISIS about to kill people.Seeing a line of people in orange boiler suits about to die is disturbing. I'm not sure if it adds to the story or it's just some kind of voyeurism.

Owllady · 05/05/2015 17:13

I'm not sickened by it at all, I think whatever brings people comfort is fine. I think people (none pet owners?) Underestimate the impact the death of a cat or dog has one you. They are generally in your life for the best part of two decades, it would be odd if their death had no emotional impact

Owllady · 05/05/2015 17:17

You can't really tell they are dying though, most of them just look old
I'm sorry it's upset you though

SaucyJack · 05/05/2015 17:20

Dear Lord. Maybe stick to Newsround on CBBC in future?

I thought this was quite tasteful for the Fail meself.

Mintyy · 05/05/2015 17:20

I'm not sure they've ever got lower than when they featured as one of their "most watched videos" a playable video of a psychopath feeding a live kitten to a python. He was the one who went on to commit an atrocious murder in Canada, I think it was. Couple of years ago.
