Depends on the nature of the office.

Kittykatmacbill · 05/05/2015 19:20

Only absolutely soaking and tbh I always try to have emergency shoes under my desk. But not posh slippers!

AuraofDora · 05/05/2015 19:25

Good look to go for if you looking for payrise...

sanityisamyth · 05/05/2015 19:39

I frequently teach without shoes on ?? !! I have really bad knees and hips and am just more comfortable without shoes!

ragged · 05/05/2015 20:28

I was barefoot today, but we are not customer facing.

Mrsstarlord · 05/05/2015 20:31

I work without shoes on as much as I can, in the office definitely and teaching too at times.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 05/05/2015 20:34

I did it quite frequently if still there late at night.

Otherwise accepted for accidents but not by choosing Smile

MinesAPintOfTea · 05/05/2015 20:36

I do occasionally. And we're high up in a sky scraper, if the fire alarm goes off and I'm wearing heels, they're off before I tackle the stairs.

I want to live to the ground floor, after that I can always nip into a shop for a new pair if we aren't straight back up in the lift

Singleandproud · 05/05/2015 20:37

I take my shoes off under my desk but have an office to myself in a new building although if probably take them off anyway. I've also taught barefoot when my new shoes hurt my feet.

Icimoi · 05/05/2015 20:38

Works although, if their are unmentionable nasties on office floors, why wouldn't they be transferred just as easily by attaching themselves to shoes?

Icimoi · 05/05/2015 20:39

Sorry, should have been Worksallhours

sherbetlemonD · 05/05/2015 20:41

I work in a shop. If i'm in the back room i'll often take my shoes off if i've been on my feet all day- customer facing is different, however.

PeppermintPasty · 05/05/2015 20:46

worra you bugger, I just snorted at that photo.

MidniteScribbler · 06/05/2015 05:03

Once the students leave in the afternoon, if I'm just working in the classroom I always kick mine off.

violetwellies · 06/05/2015 10:44

works how did they find plague? whatever were they looking for?

MummaV · 06/05/2015 11:07

If you work alone/won't be leaving your desk without shoes/ don't have smelly feet it's fine. I often take my shoes off at my desk but always put them on again if I am leaving my desk for any reason.

One girl I work with pretty much refuses to wear shoes in the office however she has some personal hygiene issues and her feet absolutely stink (amongst other things but that's another story) and she is often politely asked to put her shoes back on even if sat at her desk.

If no one else is inconvenienced and you accept responsibility for wheeling over your own toes etc I see no reason why not!

StellaAlpina · 06/05/2015 11:15

It's probably fine, though if you need to walk around could you borrow some off of an office mate. Most of the women in my office seem to have about 5 pair under their desks! Is there anyone you get along with well enough to say 'I forgot shoes! Can I borrow yours to go to accounts/the photocopier/whatever?'

violetwellies - plague is still a 'live' disease in the USA, especially in rural areas. Around 10-15 people get it a year, mainly from touching dead animals.

shrunkenhead · 06/05/2015 16:13

MummaV how do you deal with your colleague's ph issues? How can she get away with it?

MauriceTheCat · 06/05/2015 17:08

In the office on my own or when hosting a case conference? Yes all the time or in flip flops.

On the wards or with patients? No but I can get away with crocs

Weathergames · 06/05/2015 17:13

I know a lady (who has a face to face job with clients) who never wears shoes or socks - even in winter.

She goes to professional meetings and everything.

We had a lady in our office who used to keep slippers there to wear and we do deal with the general public.

MummaV · 07/05/2015 16:14

Shrunkenhead she has been spoken to on multiple occasions by management regarding her hygiene issues and for a few days she will make a conscious effort to shower and use deodorant (displayed by coming to work with wet hair, body spray can on desk - even a packet of femfresh wipes left poking clearly out of her bag) however within a few days she goes back to being smelly again.

shrunkenhead · 08/05/2015 18:02

MummaV how is she not mortified???? I can't get my head around it, I may have to start a bad hygiene AIBU of my own!
