To wonder what on earth Kate was thinking wearing a white dress less than 12 hours after giving birth

Do royals not have lochia? I'm sure I was packing triple maternity pads at that point. It's a bit high risk for leakage on the way home, no?

If I had a friend who posted an OP like this I'd call them a moron with verbal squits and a lack of ambition. I don't, but I would.

I loved her dress, but it would not have been appropriate for me due to the severity of my flow and it lasted for weeks with both of mine. Maybe I could have stood there waving for ten minutes but even then I'd be panicking. You can't beat big, black, baggy pants, messy hair tied back, no makeup, I'm going to cry any minute eyes. Thankful to be a nobody.

tethersend · 03/05/2015 18:55

Big pants?

Disposable dress?

Fake bump due to use of a surrogate?

We may never care.

seventeen · 03/05/2015 18:56

What the fuck?

Must be PMS Central on here tonight the amount of needless bile which seems to have been flung your way op!

Can some terminal muppets really not tell a lighthearted thread unless it's got fucking "lighthearted" in the title?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 03/05/2015 18:57

I also can't really understand all the baggy clothes threads either. I was desperate to have a shower, get a bit of make up on and dry my hair after I gave birth.

My first birth was awful and I felt so much better after I had had a shower. I had a quick, uncomplicated birth with DD. No stiches and was in the shower 10 minutes later whilst DH had some skin to skin with her. I felt amazing and could easily walk round etc

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 03/05/2015 18:59

That's the worst of having to hide these stupid threads, you have to open the bollocks things to click 'hide'.

So, might as well express my disgust at you whilst I'm at it OP. Urgh.

Andrewofgg · 03/05/2015 19:00

The grip shop opens in the morning.

usualsuspect333 · 03/05/2015 19:02

They are like a bloody lynch mob, the bonkers Royalists on MN.

fredfredsausagehead1 · 03/05/2015 19:02

My legs were quivering for hours after I have birth, I could go to the loo without howling!

HOWEVER I do remember euphoria and literally wanting to show the works my gorgeous baby! She got to do that I'm so jealous of that more rhan the hair and bloody dress!

Oh and I was so high on adrenaline I had my baby at 3am and at 10am was doing the big shop. With dc3 I had him at 9pm and was so determine ed to show him off I did the morning school run

Just wait til her milk comes in though...and week 2 when the fuss has died down! Well it won't for her will it?!

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 19:08

Oh blimey are we doing competitive lack of postpartum bleeding now? Confused

ShatterResistant · 03/05/2015 19:09

OP, I'm with you. It was literally the first thing I thought when I saw her. And not in an anti-royal way at all! I like her very much, and I thought it was extremely brave. When she turned around on the steps, I thought, eeeeek! And then, what kind of PANTS is she wearing?! I'm sorry you've got such a hammering.

kiwicocktail · 03/05/2015 19:10

I bet she was wearing a huggies pull up.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 03/05/2015 19:16

Surely I win sparkling?! Grin

I am genuinely quite surprised at all the threats where people advise they had a single bed mattress strapped to their nethers for weeks and weeks so just wanted to counter that.

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 03/05/2015 19:17

I imagine she was thinking 'that's a nice white dress'

Nishky · 03/05/2015 19:20

It was for 5 minutes, standing up! Calculated risk whatever your post-birth state !

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 19:20

I am not sure of the criteria to enter the competition Gobbolino. Sad Grin

Until now I have honestly not considered anyone's postpartum bleeding except for my own, and I am not sharing. #wayTMI

Nightboattocairo · 03/05/2015 19:20

Jesus! They're all out tonight

I thought the same as you, op, actually.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 19:21

I think a Duchess of Cambridge Topic may be in order.

Mrscog · 03/05/2015 19:22

Woah, I don't care what she wore, and I definitely think it's nice that she felt up to having her hair done etc. but I do think it's a shame that she's under so much pressure to dress so formally after birth. Hair and make up done, with some comfy flats and a more practical outfit would have made her seem much more 'normal' and after all they do say they want to be seen as a normal family.

Mamiof3 · 03/05/2015 19:22

I don't get the 'you must be in track suit bottoms, leaking from everywhere and not going out or seeing people for six weeks' crap. I wore nice clothes and makeup, I felt fine after coming home and wanted to get life back to normal! I wore jeans and a nice top to come home.

whatever she did she was going to be criticised. I've never met anyone who went home in pyjamas and dressing gown either. I certainly didn't and I also did my hair and makeup before leaving the hospital.

And I don't get all this staying in trackies or jim jams for a week or three either. I remember the HV who turned up at 9am without an appointment getting a bit snippy because I asked her to wait until I was dressed and had tidied my hair. She said it doesn't bother me doing the appointment if you're not dressed and was quite put out when I said "well I'm sorry but it bothers me and if you'd made an appointment I'd have been ready before you arrived. Got off on a good foot that did.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2015 19:24

My MW told me to go to bed with the baby for 2 weeks and do nothing else. Grin

seaoflove · 03/05/2015 19:31

All these people talking about doing their hair - what does that mean? Straighteners? Curlers? Fancy blow dries? Or just washing and scraping into a ponytail?

There was a lot of similar comments on another thread, suggesting that anything less than nice clothes and make up = slattern.

To which I'll say: don't judge unless you tore so badly you needed immediate perineal surgery. Don't judge unless you know what it's like to be unable to put one foot in front of the other post birth. Don't judge unless you know what it's like to spend four utterly sleepless nights on a hellishly noisy ward.

THAT'S why some women leave hospital looking like total shit Grin

fatlazymummy · 03/05/2015 19:33

Why sparkling? Were you poorly?
My Mum and my MIL were told to stay in bed for a week or something ridiculous, but nowadays you're advised to get up as soon as possible. Laying in bed isn't healthy, generally speaking.
