To wish I didn't have to have periods anymore?

Awellboiledicicle · 02/05/2015 00:08

I have my dc now. I don't want anymore. Urgh, I'm bloated, water retention, constant period pain, constipation, feel permanently like I need to wee.

I wish I could just switch it all off now, like thanks for baby making/growing that's enough now.

I felt like that, by the time I got to 40 they were so heavy and painful it was like being a teenager again.
I went to the doctor for a menopause test (I passed yay) and the nurse prescribed me a mini pill (I think cerazette). Had one period and that was it. I've now had twelve blissful months period free with no cramping, no moods etc.

Have you spoken to your gp?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/05/2015 00:21

I have a Mirena coil, and haven't had a period for over 6 years - I love it!

SycamoreMum · 02/05/2015 00:22

I was just about to mention the pill. My evil monthlys were truly the Devils Work after I had DD so I've gone back on to Cerazette. Its not kicked in yet but its getting there.

I feel your pain OP Brew/Wine

Awellboiledicicle · 02/05/2015 00:23

I can't take the pill sadly. I've been trying to get a mirena, but my GP say they can't do it or refer me. The only way is to go to a drop in family planning clinic. Which doesn't really appeal with a 2yr old in tow.

I do need to sort it though

You could try a Mirena coil. They don't suit everyone, but if they do they're brilliant. I had about 6 months of intermittent spotting (no proper periods, no PMT) and since then, nothing at all.

HirplesWithHaggis · 02/05/2015 00:25

Sorry, xpost. Would really make the effort if someone can watch your 2yo.

SistersofPercy · 02/05/2015 00:30

I didn't fancy a coil, my BF fed me her horror story about it and it put me of lol

Stupidly because dh had a vasectomy ten years ago I'd never considered contraception as a way of controlling my periods. It was a bit of a lightbulb moment I have to say.

Your GP sounds a bit crap if they can't at least refer you. Is there no practice nurse there you can speak to?

daffsandtulips · 02/05/2015 02:10

Can you not get a friend or your partner (if you have one) to look after your child for a bit whilst you go for a consultation?

cleanmyhouse · 02/05/2015 07:58

After 30 years of horrendous periods, i had endometrial ablation last year. Its taken a while to settle down and i still get period pains, but i now have the kind of period the Doctors talk about. You know, that "you only lose a few teaspoons of blood each month". I lost more in an hour than most normal people lose in a whole period and was horribly anaemic and exhausted all the time.

123Jump · 02/05/2015 08:01

Poor you, OP.
I too use Cerezette, haven't had a proper period for about 8 years, thank god!
When I came off to have another DC, I got pregnant before my first period, and had a small period when finished bring at 14 months and went straight back on.
Periods are shite!

Mumbehavingbadly · 02/05/2015 08:23

I had the type of period that meant I've had three emergency blood transfusions and swallowed pills like they were smarties - pills to stop the bleed, pills for the pain, anti cramping pills, iron pills, pills to help absorb the iron, pills to stop the constipation caused by the iron - how ironic the only pill I couldn't take was the Pill!

I was surprised to feel so sad the day they stopped. Haven't had one for nearly a year and don't even think about it day to day but occasionally such as when I see a thread like this, I think ... 'be careful what you wish for'!

I found a grey pube on Thursday Sad

Now I'm thinking I'd quite like to have a couple more 'period' years left in me. No pills to turn back time sadly.

FeijoaSundae · 02/05/2015 08:28

Gosh, this thread has been a bit of a lightbulb moment for me.

YANBU at all. My periods are light post-DC, but my PMT is far, far worse. I don't like being around me in the week leading up to my period. I wish they would just end.

It had never occurred to me to use contraception to control this.

The regular pill didn't really suit me - is Cerezette a minipill then? Might it help with PMT? Does it kill libido, though?

Cerazette .....no periods for 8 years now. Omg it's amazing!

gobbin · 02/05/2015 09:29

Oh the JOY of menopause! I'm happily swapping hot flushes for no periods Smile.

Chorister · 02/05/2015 10:02

I was the same. Hellish periods, awful bleeding, cramps, moods the whole lot.

Had the coil fitted just over a year ago, it has worked brilliant for me. I haven't had a single period and I have no other symptoms either. I should have done it years ago and would recommend giving it a try.

Chorister · 02/05/2015 10:02

Stupid auto correct. Brilliantly, not brilliant.

Endler33 · 02/05/2015 10:05

Similar problem here, my periods are so heavy and last up to 12 days, I hate having them so much, I don't want more children so it feels as though they are a waste of time. I have been to the GP so many times, struggle with the pill, don't want a coil and told injection won't be any good. I have just started to attempt another pill but I know it will make me I'll.

HagOtheNorth · 02/05/2015 10:07

'Oh the JOY of menopause! I'm happily swapping hot flushes for no periods '

Yup. On my way, I'm down to three a year. Smile
Don't miss them at all.

clare8allthepies · 02/05/2015 10:07

I had to take my 17 month old when I had my mirena fitted 2 weeks ago as I have no one to look after her when my partner is working. It was absolutely fine, she was sat in pushchair, I gave her a cookie to eat and they pulled the curtain halfway round so my bottom half was behind it but she could still see my head and could talk to her. It only took a few minutes.

123rd · 02/05/2015 10:17

I have horrendous periods too. Vomit inducing pain, flooding etc etc. I don't want to have a coil. And also consultant said it wasn't appropriate for my situation) So I'm trying Yasmin pill. ( have tried about 3 others and they all made me v nauseous ) so will give this ago. Really didn't want to go back on pill as we don't need contraception but I'm will to give it a go. Fingers crossed.

cleanmyhouse · 02/05/2015 10:18

Endler33, ask your Dr about endometrial ablation.

SycamoreMum · 02/05/2015 10:18

Feijoa - it is a mini pill. I experienced no PMT on it last time ( was on it for 4 yrs ) it is progestogen only I do believe.

It certainly didn't kill libido for me Grin little beast that I am anyway!

FeijoaSundae · 02/05/2015 10:22

Thanks Sycamore!

We've only used condoms since having DC, and I've heard bad things about pills killing sex drive, so I had to ask! Very reassuring - I'm looking into it. :)

pearlgirl · 02/05/2015 10:31

I'm another one who has had an ablation and feel like I have my life back - I still get some ovulation cramps and very tender boobs mid cycle but I had the procedure 20 months ago and haven't had a bleed since - I know for some people it reduces bleeding. I now no longer carry two sets of spare clothes around or worry about standing up and flooding everywhere.
I was something I hadn't considered but was raised by my consultant and as our family is very definitely complete, decided to go ahead with it - and am so glad I did.
