When the food made was recognisable and easily reproducible

Yes, Yes, yes MousMous and Zero

This is the state/training of current chefs. I'm veggie. I eat in very naice places. I love to eat out, however...

I'm utterly fed up of explaining what is not vegetarian (gelatine, rennet etc...).

I am utterly fed up of lazy, ill thought out mains (carbs with more carbs).

I much prefer MasterCard Australia where they start with 50, cook proper meals and do challenges like collecting food that would be thrown away by restaurants and making dishes from it, or shopping from food regions to showcase different parts of Australia, or separating 50 eggs as quickly as possible. Junior MasterCard Australia is amazing too. ( but they haven't been on for ages sob).

gaggiagirl · 02/05/2015 09:38

Agree with jiminy Australian master chef has excellent challenges, like rescuing a fucked Bolognese or cutting a carrot into perfect julienne and stuff.

I was discussing this with dd (9) the other night. She would like to see them having to cook for a fussy child with child judges. A whole days cooking on £1 - a below the line challange in other words. Producing school meals to usual school budget. Working in a Chinese takeaway with customers as judges and finally being sent out with a fiver to buy and cook a meal for a family of 4.

Dd is nothing if not demanding!

whats4teamum · 02/05/2015 09:40

I was a contestant on the old school master chef. The food was absolutely stone cold when they tasted it.

I mouthed the word "fuck" when my stick blender splatted boiling soup up my arm. They left it in,not audible, and I am proud of proper swearing on Sunday afternoon telly!

listsandbudgets · 02/05/2015 09:43

Oh and dd asks what is the obsession with forced meat and also cooking things 3 ways?

Damnautocorrect · 02/05/2015 09:52

whats4tea that's amazing!! You should be very very proud of that!!

cakewitch · 02/05/2015 09:54

I detest the way that amateur cooks start to talk like Michelin star chefs, after what seems like about 2 episodes.

Hoppinggreen · 02/05/2015 10:04

lists those ideas are brilliant - I'd watch that!

FoxyJane · 02/05/2015 10:13

Me and dh laugh at challenges and the pressure tests.

Dh keeps saying add a toddler in the kitchen whose shouting at you and constantly trying to get under your feet and another 4 children in the background playing. Then have the contestants make a meal that satisfies a vegan child, a child who will only eat bland food that is one colour, one child who will only eat very spicy or sharp food and a toddler who wants finger food and has a sulphites allergy and adults who want a nice family meal. They only have a budget of £5 and it must be cooked and on the table within an hour and they can only shop in Asda.

Now that's a real pressure test and one most of us can identify with.

The Mont Blanc pudding one of them recreated looked nice but was a bit daft and pretentious.

And yes love the Australian and New Zeland master chefs.

Not keen on Canada and the South African one is just odd.

popalot · 02/05/2015 11:31

I'm with you. I can't stand all the sentimentality of it when they are choosing the winner each time. The musac. The hugging. I just want to see the food. But then I'm a grumpy f.er.

wowfudge · 02/05/2015 11:37

I can't stand bloody Greggggggggg and John and all the stupid posturing over 'plates of food'. Grrr.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2015 11:41

Greg and John are awful.

wowfudge · 02/05/2015 11:43

Don't forget the extra G expat - the eejit gets quite het up about that.

ender · 02/05/2015 11:44

I wish we could just watch the food and the cooking process. There are way too many "reaction shots". We get brief glimpses of food, and have to listen to stilted conversations between contestants and presenters and endless back stories.

FuzzyWizard · 02/05/2015 11:52

I've not seen Australian Masterchef but really love My Kitchen Rules which is Australian. They have really good challenges too.

RaggyAnnie · 02/05/2015 11:58

I hate the way the contestants go over to have a look at each others dishes and give them a pat on the back.

SanityClause · 02/05/2015 11:59

Agree, FoxyJane.

Cooking doesn't get any tougher than this?

Ha!

FarFromAnyRoad · 02/05/2015 12:04

Just bring Michel Roux back and get rid of fucking Greg Wallace. I can't watch without Michel.
