To think my 11 year old should be in bed by now?

Rather than watching TV with DP?
I'm all for allowing them to stay up late for special occasions, but today is a normal night and DD has been a bit poorly this week. She needs a good nights sleep. Instead DP thinks she should watch TV. They started watching something at 9.45 so the earliest she'll be in bed is 11pm.
What time do other 11 year olds go to bed?

Mine's up. Has a friend round a they're playing M:TG.

Don't worry about what time they go to sleep. Friday night, nowhere to be tomorrow.

dementedpixie · 01/05/2015 22:25

my dd is still awake but is reading in bed

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2015 22:26

Will she not get a good night's sleep when she goes to bed at 11pm?

My DS12 goes at 9.30pm and my DS16 goes at 10pm (weekends).

But they read or watch a DVD, so probably won't be asleep before 11.30-ish anyway.

wigglesrock · 01/05/2015 22:27

I'd assume quite a few eleven year olds would be up at 10.30 on a Friday night. My eldest is almost 10 and I've just turned her light out for a second time about 15 mins ago.

BloodyDogHairs · 01/05/2015 22:28

My 11 yr old ds is still up playing his PS4.....apparently the online game he's playing doesn't finish until 11pm.

whatdidthefoxsay · 01/05/2015 22:28

My 11 and 13 year old are still up, not a problem and a nice long lie tomorrow. Friday night., rules are relaxed in our house

Tubbytimmy · 01/05/2015 22:29

My 11yo dd is still awake reading.

reni1 · 01/05/2015 22:30

7yo went to sleep only half an hour ago Confused .

freddiethegreat · 01/05/2015 22:32

Well, to put another viewpoint, my 12 year old son was asleep by 21.20. It sometimes becomes 21.30 - 45 at weekends, but very rarely (weddings or similar) later. And I will turn my light out shortly myself.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 01/05/2015 22:32

DS1(12) & DS2(10) still gaming, DS3 (6) watching TV (although shouldn't be!)

My 8 year old has just gone to bed, Friday nights are late nights here so he can have some 1-1 time with us.

WeAllHaveWings · 01/05/2015 22:34

Ds(11) has an away football match early morning so bed to read at 9:30 and lights were out ay 10pm.

Notyouagaintoday · 01/05/2015 22:35

My 15 & 14 yo went up at 1015. What is on TV that's suitable at this time of night.?
Yanbu if it's unsuitable but you could be ur if they haven't seen each other much due to work and school commitments and are enjoying something together.

bunchoffives · 01/05/2015 22:36

Yes 11yr old should be in bed by about 9.30pm imho. Can stay up later but they don't usually enjoy their days at home then because they're grumpy (well mine always were anyway).

morethanpotatoprints · 01/05/2015 22:37

My 11 year old varies quite a lot but doesn't have a set bedtime at all.
sometimes its as early as 8pm other times it can be gone midnight before we are travelling home.
They sleep when they're tired.

TooBusyByHalf · 01/05/2015 22:41

It'll be something on iplayer we never watch actual TV so prob not unsuitable.

I suppose you are all right. I am just tired. Long week at work and busy day today for mums birthday. I suppose I'm annoyed at DP who has been going to bed early all week so we've had no time together and now it's me in bed early grumping at them.

Notyou he's watching Minecraft videos on YouTube (only certain ones he's allowed)

LaLyra · 01/05/2015 22:42

I wouldn't be bothered with it being a Friday and if she's watching something specific.

My twins are a similar age and they're playing a board game with DH and DS1. DH has been away or working late all week so they're having a bit of time together and none of us have to be up early tomorrow.

butterflyballs · 01/05/2015 22:45

Dd 9 went up at 9.15 and dsd 11 went up at 10.

We are up and out early tomorrow to see a pirate ship.

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/05/2015 22:45

YANBU, but then your DP maybe isn't either.
My DD has never had a bedtime, at 13 she will stay up untill 2am, but akso go to bed at 7pm.
I let her get on with it so long as it doesn't get silly with mealtimes and going out if we need to.

SwirlyThingAlert · 01/05/2015 23:09

My 11 year old has been in bed for 8pm, but can read in bed until 8.30pm then lights off on a weeknight.
On a Saturday, it's a bit later as he watches Britain's Got Talent or whatever and by the time he's finished that it's 10pm then straight to bed. That's OK as nowhere to be Sunday morning, and been no school during Saturday day.
Seems early compared to some of the replies on here, but trust me, he does not DO 11pm type bedtimes well as he's a mare if he has them!

SwirlyThingAlert · 01/05/2015 23:13

They sleep when they're tired.

That's all well and good if you've got a child that's of a sunny disposition regardless of what time they go to sleep.
If you've got one that turns into demon child the next day as they're demented with the sleep deprivation it's a different story! Smile

Happy36 · 01/05/2015 23:23

I think 11pm or 11.30pm for an 11 year old on a Friday without an early start in the morning is fine.
