To not think refund justified???

I sold an expensive underwear set on well known auction site. The bra had been worn once & knickers never but labels off. It sold for 1/10 of it's original price so absolute bargain. However person who bought them has said misdescribed on ad as the knickers have been washed & I'd put new with no tags!! The said underwear set had been sat in my underwear drawer for about 9 years or so!!!! So admittedly before selling I gently handwashed both items. But buyer is complaining & insisting on refund!! AIBU to think I should have to refund...and cover sending costs to & from buyer! Thank you

2nd hand bra !!!! ShockConfused

LIZS that's my point - how can you tell the difference between new without tags and worn once but washed anyway?

I have really bad eczema so use laundry stuff with minimal fragrance (if any) so maybe wouldn't notice smell as much. Also, even BNWT would pick up smells from peoples houses (not bad, just different houses smells different. I get hit with a wall of synthetic fragrance when I go through MILs front door!)

Presume the type of underwear you'd sell on on eBay isn't the sort to come packaged?

You don't take the peel off plastic off until you wear them.

PeppermintCrayon · 02/05/2015 09:10

Italic fail sorry.

Blush I sold loads of worn bras on eBay - all in good condition, freshly laundered and wrapped in tissue paper. They were a size that is difficult to purchase and went for prices that were good enough to justify the effort of putting them on eBay. All purchased by women, as far as I'm aware, who seemed happy by their purchases if the feedback is anything to go by.

Personally though, I wouldn't buy a used bra on eBay

Charis1 · 02/05/2015 09:50

You could have washed it in something the buyer was allergic to. I'm allergic to several washing powders.

CupidStuntSurvivor · 02/05/2015 11:59

I'm still confused about non-perverts buying used underwear. Can just about understand it with bras (I'm an unusual huge size and it's difficult to find anything that fits well) but used knickers is beyond the pale for me.

Aridane · 02/05/2015 12:23

EBay prohibits sale of used lnickers, but not bras

DisappointedOne · 02/05/2015 12:35

Not very effectively!

Balaboosta · 02/05/2015 12:49

I thought you couldn't sell pants on eBay - my listing of toddlers swim pants was once rejected.

monkeysox · 02/05/2015 13:48

I sold expensive bras which no.longer fit me and had a perv asking if I had any used pants too. Yak

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 02/05/2015 14:11

So had the bra being worn or not? In your OP you said it had been yet in your later posts you said the underwear was unworn Confused.

Tbh it would never occur to me to sell a bra that had been worn, even if only once.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 02/05/2015 14:12

been worn.

TarkaTheOtter · 02/05/2015 14:15

I'd also question if you can sell something you have owned for 9 years as "new" regardless of whether you have worn it or not.

jay55 · 02/05/2015 14:29

If it's been in the drawer for 9 years new is really pushing it.

hedgehogsdontbite · 02/05/2015 14:45

I was thinking the same as Tarka.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 02/05/2015 15:03

Toads The OP said the bra was worn, the knickers (underwear) weren't.

shewept · 02/05/2015 15:06

I think the term would 'unworn' rather than new after 9 years, surely.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 02/05/2015 15:11

peppermint Do they still have those? Buy underwear from M&S, HoF and independent boutiques mostly and only see them on bikinis now.

Afraid still none the wiser!

(though in adding to current debate, do find buying underwear from eBay a bit weird)

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 02/05/2015 15:16

I'm guessing of you buy any new bra there's a risk someone will have tried it on in the shop before you.

But actively buying used underwear on eBay - no. Just no.

UncleT · 02/05/2015 15:19

People buy used underwear on eBay?? (even if claimed unworn....)

newbieman1978 · 02/05/2015 15:42

So what sort of knickers are we talking here....thong, g-string, French, big ones?? Just for future reference of course!! GrinGrin

DamsonInDistress · 02/05/2015 16:04

As a 28H/30GG I happily buy nwot/unworn/lightly worn bras on eBay, it's a size that can be incredibly difficult to get hold of at a good price and once it's been through my washing machine, who cares? I never realised people were so uptight about second hand clothes, meh.

dillite · 02/05/2015 16:05

I've sold a bunch of bra's on ebay, all were only worn for a few hours as they turned out to be terribly uncomfortable if worn for more than 5 min- straps were too narrow for my mammoth cups. Each one was £40 when new. All three were bought by a woman who was very happy to find her size cheaply. I've never bought one myself though, as I have to try them on first.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 02/05/2015 18:22

I have had several bras that I only wore once because I found them uncomfy. It still wouldn't occur to me to sell them though but maybe it's me who is the odd one. I just threw them away.

I would also never buy any underwear off places like ebay just in case they had been worn before.

To each their own though.
