To ask: Jam first or cream first?

BigRedBall · 01/05/2015 13:56

I put jam on my scone first then a dollop of cream.

Aesthetically it's not very pretty because the redness of the jam is obscured. But practically it makes sense. And it all comes out the same in the end so what's the point of making it look all pretty.

What do you do?

If its whipped cream its just wrong.
Got to be clotted, or butter.

LurkingHusband · 01/05/2015 14:32

CMOTDibber

What do you mean if it's clotted cream Shock

Bambambini · 01/05/2015 14:32

Cream then jam - I'm disgusted!

Germgirl · 01/05/2015 14:33

It can only be clotted cream can't it? If you don't have clotted cream then just have butter & jam.

BigRedBall · 01/05/2015 14:57

Whipped cream doesn't make sense. It has to be clotted ofcourse.

Jam
Cream
Gone

newfavouritething · 01/05/2015 15:04

Stupid question - jam then cream, everyone else is wrong.

londonrach · 01/05/2015 15:05

Neither! Yuk just butter. Sure we have had this asked before...

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 01/05/2015 15:06

Jam then cream, but I'm Cornish. I've reluctantly come to accept that once you get North of the Tamar, folks do stuff differently.

Clotted cream, obviously. :-)

MoreBeta · 01/05/2015 15:13

Jam then cream.

Its the same making a Victoria sponge cake.

You cant physically spread jam on top of cream but you can spread cream on top of jam quite easily.

SevTSnape · 01/05/2015 15:14

Jam then nothing. Don't like cream

Orangeisthenewbanana · 01/05/2015 15:16

Jam, then cream.

DH and I bicker about it everyone we have a cream tea Grin

Andrewofgg · 01/05/2015 15:17

It's scone as in gone, it does not matter which order you put them on in, and is this the ultimate First World Problem?

Allalonenow · 01/05/2015 15:21

Jam then
Clotted cream natch,
And the scone is soon gone!

BlueKarou · 01/05/2015 15:21

Jam first.
Then cream.
It's the only way that makes sense.

And it rhymes with gone.

FelixFelix · 01/05/2015 15:23

Cream then jam. Jam is easier to spread than the cream so it makes sense, otherwise it's just making work for yourself and sabotaging the time you could be spent shoving it in your gob.

And it's scone as in bone.

AwayAndRunUpMaHumf · 01/05/2015 15:24

I have butter then jam then cream Blush

tilliebob · 01/05/2015 15:26

I'd do jam then cream. But as long as they are both there and plenty of them, I wouldn't argue this is why I'm overweight

helenahandbag · 01/05/2015 15:26

Fudgeface123

I had real trouble reading your post because I forgot how to pronounce "grown" Blush

I sat for ages saying it, rhyming with "frown" Grin

Stormtreader · 01/05/2015 15:28

Somerset girl here - thick spread of clotted cream with a bit of a dip in, and then a good spoon of jam into the dip!

ShaynePunim · 01/05/2015 15:30

Jam then cream makes sense practically because it's hard to spread jam over cream without making a mess, HOWEVER I find that jam directly on the scone alters the taste and texture of the whole thing.

Like I hate jam straight on bred, it makes the bread a bit mushy and horrible.

SevTSnape · 01/05/2015 15:39

By the way, it is scone like stone. You don't say stonn!

PrudetheObscure · 01/05/2015 15:47

cream first (it replaces butter for me) then a dollop of jam. I live in Cornwall though so I should really cross the bridge before I have my annual cream tea indulgence Smile

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 01/05/2015 16:07

I put butter on first then either cream or jam next
