MrsLH and I went to see Dylan Moran last night (excellent btw). A massive thank you to all the staff who were super-friendly and helpful - even though MrsLH was prepared to transfer to the seats we bought, one of the ushers arranged for us to sit in a level area).

However, people were still getting to their seats 20 minutes after the show had started. All over the venue. It was quite distracting, as every time the door opened anywhere, the light came in.

There was no incident which might have caused a mass delay, so I just think these people are rude, ignorant, and maybe it would have served them right if they weren't allowed in after 5 minutes ?

Not sure if this is a one-off, as previously we've sat further forwards, so can't see the doors. But I can't recall other gigs being anywhere near as bad.

Was Dylan Moran on time? once at the Leicester comedy festival he was 45 mins late when I got up and went to the bar, he was in there drinking, I said we are all waiting in their, took another 10 mins for him to appear this was pre him having children, last time I saw him he was only 15 mins late.

Very good when he does turn up

I love the over use of the phrase rude and ignorant on mn! Yes it's not ideal, but usually theatres will force latecomers to wait for a point in the show when it's less distracting to enter (scene change) etc. so if the theatre weren't doing this then it's really them you should be angry at. I think that people turned up late because they're used to seeing comedians at smaller comedy venues, where the time on the ticket means 'doors at x time' and you wouldn't expect the show to start then, plus you'd expect a couple of warm up acts. At a smaller comedy club type it's fine to arrive later or pop in and out tithe bar etc. so I very much doubt that anyone was particularly rude and ignorant, probably just not used to going to major venues to see a comedy act and therefor unaware of the difference in set up.

YANBU. They should not have been allowed in until the interval or a suitable break in the performance. That said I have never heard of Dylan Moran so Y might be being U.

redshoeblueshoe · 01/05/2015 11:21

Calling MrsLW is BU otherwise YANBU Grin

kinkyfuckery · 01/05/2015 11:26

I hate that people do this.

I went to see Damien Rice years ago and he got so peed off with people continuing to come in 15 minutes into his set, he left the stage (funnily, not flouncy) and said to give him a shout when it was convenient for them.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 01/05/2015 11:29

YABU. I was late to the Dylan Moran show last night. We hit hideous traffic on the way there. There was nothing we could do bar abandoning the car and running the 30 miles there Hmm.

I hate being late but sometimes it's just out of your hands. I'm not going to miss the rest of the eagerly anticipated show just because you find a little light distracting.

A lot of theatres won't let you in after 20 minutes and you have to wait until the break. I don't mind people being late as that's life but if you are late then just get your fucking seat and sit down! Do not have a hissed conversation at each other and faff around in front of everyone else! X

JammyGem · 01/05/2015 12:48

I work at a theatre venue (we had Dylan Moran here just a few weeks ago) and I completely agree with you.

We usually let latecomers in at a suitable moment, so during applause or at the end of a song if it's a concert, but that's just our policy.

DoJo · 01/05/2015 12:50

Everyone has their own stuff going on, coming from different places, dealing with the surprises and obstacles that life throws at them from late babysitters and inconsolable children to not being able to find a parking space or accidentally coming off at the wrong junction of a roundabout. If it bothered you that a bit of light came in while you were watching the show, then it's something to take up with the venue as it would be their policy which allowed it, but I don't think it's fair to assume that everyone who is ten minutes late is just an irredeemable bastard.

EmeraldThief · 01/05/2015 12:52

People also do this at the cinema, wandering in just as the film is starting. It's very distracting.

RustyBear · 01/05/2015 13:06

There was no incident which might have caused a mass delay

The Clapham Junction/Victoria power cut was still apparently causing delays last night...

londonrach · 01/05/2015 13:14

Yanbu. Alot of theatres make you stand outside if late until a break in performance.. Glad you enjoyed it x

LikeTheShoes · 01/05/2015 16:05

I used to work at a venue (which has also hosted Dylan Moran) latecomers were not allowed in after the show started. It makes people very cross. We were not paid enough to put up with the abuse we got from members of the public. (if they were nice about it we would sneak them in through the fire exit.)

I once went to a recording of some panel show at the BBC, it was meant to finish at 10 but they were still going at 11.30 as members of the panel kept "going to the toilet". People kept sneaking out so they wouldn't miss the last train home so they called security to keep everyone in their seats!!Shock

windchime · 01/05/2015 17:22

The more I experience the rudeness and ignorance of the people of this country, the more I want to stay at home.
